Mission accomplished! 🔐⭐️

The amazing staff at Sunrise of Cinco Ranch successfully completed our Mission of Comfort Escape Room Challenge! They flew through the challenges, shared plenty of laughs, and learned a little more about the heart of hospice care along the way.

We had such a great time with this team! Thanks for playing along and making learning about hospice so much fun!

Question: Do hospice patients ever get better?

Answer: Yes!! Sometimes hospice care helps manage symptoms so effectively that a patient’s condition stabilizes or improves to the point that they no longer meet hospice eligibility criteria. When that happens, they may be discharged from hospice—something worth celebrating! 💗

And graduating from hospice doesn’t close the door forever. If their condition declines in the future and they once again meet eligibility requirements, hospice care can be elected again.

Hospice isn’t about giving up. It’s about providing the right care, at the right time, while supporting comfort, dignity, and quality of life every step of the way.

At Acara Hospice, we’re honored to care for our patients through every chapter—even the ones that end with a graduation from our services. 🎓💗

Our nurse, Kate, submitted this special wish request, and thanks to the The Association of Former Students and the Acara Hospice Foundation, we were able to help make it a reality. ❤️

And somehow, the day turned out even more beautiful than we could have imagined.

One of the greatest privileges of hospice care is getting to truly know our patients—their stories, the things they love, the memories they hold close, and the moments that still bring them joy. Being able to take those things and create a wish grant uniquely meaningful to them is something incredibly special.

Hospice can be an emotionally heavy profession, but days like this are the icing on the cake. 🥹 They remind us why we do what we do: to add life to days, create meaningful moments, and make sure our patients know just how deeply they are cared for.

Our entire team is still gushing over this one and feeling so grateful that we got to be a small part of such a BIG day.

Gig ’Em, Mr. Hayes! 👍🏼🤍

This is one of those days that’s going to stay with us for a very long time. 🥹

🌟 August Employees of the Month! 🌟

This month, we’re proud to recognize three incredible members of Team Acara who truly embody what it means to give A Care Above every single day. 💗

👏 India, CNA
👏 Irma, Social Worker
👏 Cassi, RN Case Manager

These three go above and beyond in everything they do—and somehow, they always do it with a smile. Whether they’re providing hands-on care, supporting a family through a difficult season, lending a listening ear, or simply doing the little things that make someone’s day brighter, their compassion shines through.

We are so grateful for each of you and the difference you make for our patients, families, and entire Acara team. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 🌟

Some of the most meaningful moments in hospice care are the ones that might seem small to everyone else.

Our patient Mr. Alton Estes is both blind and deaf. Without the ability to see or hear what is happening around him, his world can understandably feel uncertain and overwhelming. He often stays in his room, prefers very little interaction, and has struggled with wanting to eat or participate in activities.

But behind the walls he has built over the years as a form of protection is a sweet man who simply needed someone willing to slow down, enter his world, and earn his trust.

And one of our nurses, Kate, did exactly that.

Over time, the two have developed their own beautiful way of communicating. She uses sign language, allowing Mr. Estes to feel the signs through touch. With patience and consistency, he communicates back. What began as caregiving has grown into a relationship built on trust, understanding, and genuine connection.

Recently, something special happened.

After a good hair brushing and getting cleaned up, Mr. Estes agreed to get into his chair and leave the familiarity of his room. He went to the dining area, enjoyed a meal, spent some time near the windows, and experienced a change of scenery. Then his nurse asked if they could take a picture together.

He said yes.

For someone who often finds interaction stressful, that “yes” meant so much.

Mr. Estes spent his working years as a mechanic—a man accustomed to using his hands, working, fixing, and doing. Knowing that part of his story, our hospice team continues finding ways to bring pieces of familiarity and purpose back into his days, including a sensory mitten with chains and objects he can explore with his hands.

This is hospice care.

It’s learning someone’s story. It’s finding a way to communicate when words aren’t possible. It’s building enough trust that someone feels a little less vulnerable and a little less alone.

And sometimes, it’s helping someone step out of a dark room and back into the light. 💛
