✨ CKD warriors, listen up!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: You can Thrive with CKD!

You don’t have to change everything at once. Sometimes, the best place to start is with one small change.

Here are 5 simple places to start:

✅ Add more veggies -Try adding an extra serving to one meal.

✅ Be mindful of hydration - Keep water nearby and sip throughout the day.

✅ Cut back on salt- Use herbs, spices, lemon, lime, or vinegar for flavor instead.

✅Try a meatless meal - Choose one meal this week to skip the meat and try something new.

✅ Add more movement - Take a walk, stretch, or simply move a little more throughout your day.

You don’t need to do all five today. Pick ONE and start there.

And remember, CKD nutrition is personal. Your needs may depend on your stage of CKD, labs, medications, and other health factors.

If you’re living with CKD, I want you to know this: you are not alone.

A CKD diagnosis can feel scary and confusing.

You may be asking:

What can I eat?
What foods should I avoid?
How can I support my kidneys?

You don’t need more confusing information. You need a simple plan and support to help you move forward with confidence.

With the right guidance, you can learn how to:

• Know what foods support kidney health
• Make kidney-friendly meals you enjoy
• Feel confident at the grocery store and in your kitchen
• Stop worrying about every food choice

That’s why I created KidneyClarity™, my step-by-step CKD nutrition group program.

Inside KidneyClarity™, you’ll learn what to eat, how to build healthy habits, and how to make changes that fit your life.

You don’t have to do this alone.

Your journey starts with one small step.
You can thrive with CKD.

If you were told you have chronic kidney disease, it can feel really confusing to know what to eat.

As a dietitian with 17 years of experience, including 15 years as a kidney dietitian, I often see the same thing happen.

Most people don’t get much help at first, so they turn to Google. A lot of information online can feel scary and overwhelming. Many people then start eating too little or cutting out too many foods because they are afraid of hurting their kidneys.

Most people are really trying their best. They just don’t have clear or simple information.

These are the 3 most common mistakes I see:

1. Using Google to figure out what to eat.
2. Cutting out fruits and vegetables when potassium is not high.
3. Cutting out all their favorite foods.
Over time, this can lead to stress, fear around food, and not eating enough.

You don’t need a long list of food rules. You need clear guidance that fits your labs, your stage of kidney disease, and your real life.

When you have that, eating feels a lot easier and less scary.

Build a Kidney-Friendly Summer Snack Tray

Need to bring something to a BBQ, picnic, or summer party? A colorful snack tray is easy to make, fun to share, and kidney-friendly.

Here is a simple way to build one:

1. Add fruits and veggies:
Pears, apples, berries, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, broccoli, celery, or snap peas.

2. Choose low-sodium crackers or bread:
Try Hint of Salt Triscuits, Hint of Salt Wheat Thins, low-sodium water crackers, unsalted or low-sodium rice crackers, Nut Thins, or lower-sodium whole grain bread like Ezekiel bread.

3. Pick a tasty dip:
Hummus, pesto, white bean artichoke dip, caramelized onion dip, chimichurri, or tzatziki. Choose a lower-sodium option or make your own at home.

4. Add a few extras:
Roasted chickpeas, goat cheese, low-sodium or unsalted nuts and seeds, Swiss cheese, fresh herbs like basil or mint, dark chocolate, unsweetened dried fruit, or a drizzle of honey.

Eating for kidney health can be fresh, colorful, and full of flavor. You can enjoy your favorite summer celebrations and still make choices that support your kidneys.
