Lately I’ve been spending a lot more time getting Hippy Hands out into Colorado Springs.

Business cards have been making their way around town, I’ve been finding more local places to leave them, working on what I’m posting here and basically doing all the stuff that happens when you own a small business that nobody sees from the massage table.

Massage is the fun part.

Apparently I also accidentally signed up to be the marketing department. 😂

So if you spot a Hippy Hands card somewhere around town, yep. That was probably me.

October is Arts Month in Colorado Springs, and creativity has always been a big part of Hippy Hands.

Something most people don't realize about massage therapy:

When I was in massage school, I was taught that around 22 hours of hands-on massage a week was considered full-time.

Sounds weird until you realize the hands-on part of this job is basically a workout. 😂

I'm standing, lunging, shifting my weight, using my legs and core and controlling pressure for an hour or more.

Then doing it again.

And again.

Twenty-something hours of massage isn't the whole workweek. It's the workout portion of the workweek.

After 10+ years, taking care of my body is part of how I keep taking care of yours.

— Massage Brain 😂

There’s a very specific point during a massage when your brain stops forming complete sentences.

Before massage:
“I really need you to work on my left shoulder because—”

Twenty minutes later:
“Yeah… that spot… the thing… right there.” 😂

Totally normal.

You don’t have to explain everything perfectly. Pointing and saying “that spot” works just fine.

One thing I still can’t explain after more than 10 years of doing massage:

Sixty minutes at work is 60 minutes.

Sixty minutes waiting on somebody is four business days.

But 60 minutes on a massage table is somehow 11 minutes.

Massage tables clearly operate in their own time zone. 😂

Cupping uses gentle suction to lift the skin and the tissue underneath it.

It creates a completely different sensation than regular massage. Some people love that pulling feeling. Other people decide very quickly that cups are not their thing. 😂

Either answer is fine. Your body gets a vote.

They’re tools—not a theme.

Here’s where Hippy Hands gets a little confusing.

The studio is inside The Next Us Building, upstairs and behind the glass. You can’t really see it from the street, and wandering around confused is not a great way to start a massage.

So I made a reel. 😂

Fun fact: even your hair has muscles.

Tiny muscles attached to your hair follicles contract when you are cold or startled. That is what gives you goosebumps.

Your hair doesn’t need a massage, but the rest of you might.
