We have openings for new clients in ABA, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy. If your family has been thinking about therapy, now is a good time to reach out.

Here is what getting started looks like. First, reach out and tell us what your child needs. Then our team confirms your benefits, gathers what your insurance needs, and matches your child with the therapist who fits them best. Most families begin services about 3 to 4 weeks after that first conversation, and your spot is held for you the whole time.

Reaching out early is the best way to start sooner. We will keep you updated at every step, and you will always know what comes next.

Send us a message to claim an opening.

You do not have to walk into that meeting alone. The Arc Pikes Peak Region.

The Arc Pikes Peak Region has been defending the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1955. Their advocates help families understand their options and their rights in schools and in government funded systems of care, and they offer educational, adult, and judicial advocacy at no charge. They also run guardianship services and parent workshops.

They serve El Paso, Teller, and Park counties, and their services are free. Learn more at thearcppr.org. More advocacy partners on our resource page at wellcareco.com/resources.

Your city has an adaptive recreation program. Most families never hear about it.

The Therapeutic Recreation Program, run by Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, gives youth and adults with disabilities the chance to build skills and take part in the leisure activities they choose. TRP staff also work with general recreation programs on inclusion, so a kiddo can join a regular class with the right support in place rather than a separate one.

Call 719-385-6964 for programs, or 719-385-6855 to ask about the inclusion process. Details at parks.coloradosprings.gov/trp. More adaptive recreation on our resource page at wellcareco.com/resources.

Before the next IEP meeting, call PEAK.

PEAK Parent Center has been in Colorado Springs since 1986, and it is Colorado's Parent Training and Information Center. Trained parent advisors give individualized information, support, and referrals by phone, email, or in person, covering special education and parent rights, inclusion, positive behavior support, and the transition to adulthood. They serve families of children birth through 26, across all disability labels, and most services are free in both English and Spanish.

Their central office is at 917 E. Moreno Ave., Suite 140. Call 719-531-9400 or visit peakparent.org. More advocacy and navigation partners on our resource page at wellcareco.com/resources.

Special Kids Special Families.

Zach's Place at the Laurie Hillyard Family Center provides specialized child care and respite for youth with disabilities ages 2.5 to 18, including before and after school, weekends, and overnight care. They operate on a sliding fee scale and accept Medicaid waivers, and they will help you look for community funding if you need it.

Respite works best as something regular, not something you reach for only in an emergency. Learn more at sksfcolorado.org or call 719-447-8983. More local support on our resource page at wellcareco.com/resources.

Just a reminder about the Challenger Baseball volunteer opportunity! ⚾

If you're interested in volunteering as a buddy this season, there are still opportunities to sign up and help kiddos with physical and intellectual disabilities enjoy some time out on the baseball field.

I'll also be out there with a WellCare and Nurture booth on Sunday, August 30, and it would be awesome to have a group of us there volunteering together!

People ask us what a free screening is actually like. Here is the whole thing.

First, you tell us what you have been noticing. Second, one of our therapists meets your child and plays, watching what they are building in their own way. Third, you leave with a clear next step. Sometimes that step is simply keep doing what you are doing, and that is a real answer.

A screening is not a diagnosis and not an assessment. It is a short, friendly visit. Speech, OT, PT, and ABA all under one roof in Colorado Springs.
