Being part of a community so closely connected to Fort Carson means we get to care for the pets of many service members, which we’re truly honored to do. Our patients make us happy ❤️! This is Charlie. Charlie presented to us on Sunday minimally responsive, cold and a dangerously low blood glucose after being seen on Saturday for gastroenteritis. The team quickly got to work on Charlie while piecing together his clinical signs and symptoms, as well as history, to determine the best course of treatment. Charlie was hospitalized and given fluids and medications, as well as having lab tests run to monitor his progress. Today after being with us for 50 hours, he was able to go home to his family! We couldn’t help but snuggle Charlie when he was here and we were sad to have him leave us, but so happy he was able to go home!

As lawns start getting extra attention this time of year, it’s important to remember that many garden products aren’t pet‑friendly. Fertilizers, w**d killers, and pest treatments can linger on grass or paws, and curious pets may sniff, walk through, or even ingest something that could be dangerous to them.

A few simple habits can help keep your outdoor space safe for your pets:

🌿 Keep lawn and garden supplies stored where pets can’t reach them.
🌤️ Wait until treated areas are fully dry before letting pets roam.
🔎 Give product labels a quick read to make sure they’re safe for homes with animals.

While dogs share ancestry with wolves, they’ve spent thousands of years evolving into the goofy, cuddly, human‑loving companions we know today. Dogs are built for people, not for pack life in the wild. They communicate differently, eat differently, live differently, and honestly… wolves would probably side‑eye half the things our dogs do.

As the weather warms up, veterinarians often see more parvovirus cases. That’s because dogs spend more time outdoors where the virus can linger in soil for months, especially in shaded or moist areas.

Spring also means busier dog parks and more social outings, which increases exposure—even without direct contact with a sick dog. And many puppies are exploring before finishing their full vaccine series, making them more vulnerable.

To protect your pup: stay on top of vaccinations, be cautious in high‑traffic dog areas, and contact your vet if you notice vomiting, diarrhea, or sudden lethargy. Parvo spreads quickly, but early care saves lives.

Easter is almost here, and while egg hunts are fun for kids, they can be risky for pets.

Here’s what to watch for:
🐣 Plastic eggs: Dogs can break them and swallow sharp pieces, leading to choking or intestinal blockage.
🐣 Chocolate & candy: Many treats (especially dark chocolate or xylitol‑containing candy) are toxic to dogs.
🐣 Hidden eggs: Any missed eggs can become surprise snacks later, plastic and all.

To keep your dog safe:
✔️ Supervise your dogs during the hunt
✔️ Count eggs before you hide them and again after
