Meet our incredible Neurology team of Souther Rockies!
Alyssa (left) is a Registered Veterinary Technician who has been with Southern Rockies since 2019! Most recently, she was our beginning of the week shift lead and worked as a tech in our ICU. We are excited for her to bring her high level of knowledge of critical care to the neuro team, while she expands her areas of expertise!
Dr Inglis (middle) is your Colorado Springs Veterinary Neurologist! Originally from Scotland, she came to the US to pursue a career in Neuroscience. She was an associate professor of neuroscience and cell biology at Tulane University, BEFORE deciding to go into Veterinary medicine. Dr Inglis enjoys all aspects of veterinary neurology but is particularly interested in surgery and the benefits for pets and owners, as well as helping patients with seizures and autoimmune disease. Shayne (right) is the second Registered Veterinary Technician on the neuro team. Shayna has been in veterinary medicine for 5 years now. Most of her experience is in speciality medicine, primarily working under a surgeon. Surgery has always been a favorite field of practice, and she is looking forward to getting to see more neurology-based surgeries since the bulk of her knowledge is in soft tissue, minimally invasive, and orthopedic procedures. Shayna is passionate about client education and helping owners understand more about what is going on with their furry family members! We have some exciting news to share! Starting September 14, Southern Rockies Animal Emergency and Specialty will officially have Neurology available in the Colorado Springs community again! Dr Inglis will be joining the team to serve your pets neurological needs! Over the next week, we will have details on scheduling appointments with Dr Inglis and her team, so stay tuned!

Being part of a community so closely connected to Fort Carson means we get to care for the pets of many service members, which we’re truly honored to do. The commitment and strength military families show every day inspires us. To show our appreciation, we are happy to offer a military discount at every visit for those who bring a valid military ID. It’s a small way we hope to give back and help make pet care a little more accessible.

Our patients make us happy ❤️! This is Charlie. Charlie presented to us on Sunday minimally responsive, cold and a dangerously low blood glucose after being seen on Saturday for gastroenteritis. The team quickly got to work on Charlie while piecing together his clinical signs and symptoms, as well as history, to determine the best course of treatment. Charlie was hospitalized and given fluids and medications, as well as having lab tests run to monitor his progress. Today after being with us for 50 hours, he was able to go home to his family! We couldn’t help but snuggle Charlie when he was here and we were sad to have him leave us, but so happy he was able to go home!

As lawns start getting extra attention this time of year, it’s important to remember that many garden products aren’t pet‑friendly. Fertilizers, w**d killers, and pest treatments can linger on grass or paws, and curious pets may sniff, walk through, or even ingest something that could be dangerous to them.

A few simple habits can help keep your outdoor space safe for your pets:

🌿 Keep lawn and garden supplies stored where pets can’t reach them.
🌤️ Wait until treated areas are fully dry before letting pets roam.
🔎 Give product labels a quick read to make sure they’re safe for homes with animals.

If your pet ever seems off after being outside, or you think they may have gotten into something toxic, reach out right away. Quick action matters, and we’re always here to help. You can also contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center for immediate guidance.

Please join us in congratulating our Employee of the Quarter, Maya! Maya works in our ICU at the end of the week and brings a wealth of knowledge, caring and the utmost compassion for all of our patients. When asked, Maya says “I like working here because I get to work with my favorite people, and also because I like making a difference in pets lives”. We are so thankful to call Maya a teammate! Congratulations Maya!
