Today, 9/25, is Dolly Day—a date that sounds a lot like one of her most famous songs. 💖

As an East Tennessee company, we’re proud to celebrate Dolly Parton and the many ways she cared for others, including her support for medical research. Now “9 to 5” can help us remember another way to care for someone: its beat is about 105 beats per minute, right in the 100–120 range for chest compressions.

If a teen or adult suddenly collapses and isn’t breathing normally, call 911, get an AED, and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Dolly’s music can help you keep the beat. 🎶

Only about 1 in 5 U.S. adults is currently trained in CPR.

🙋‍♀️ Raise your hand if you’re CPR certified!

If you’re not, I’m curious — what’s holding you back?
Time? Cost? Not sure where to take a class? Think you’ll never need it?

CPR is one of those skills you hope you never have to use… but when someone’s life depends on it, you’ll be glad you know what to do. ❤️

Tell me below: Are you CPR certified? And if not, why not?

When a baby is choking, knowing what to do can save precious time.

For an infant under 1 who can’t breathe, cry, or cough effectively: give 5 back blows, followed by 5 chest thrusts. Repeat until the object comes out or the baby becomes unresponsive. Call 911, and start infant CPR if the baby becomes unresponsive.

Save this video, then send it to a parent, grandparent, or caregiver who needs to know.

I made a mistake in a recent CPR video—and I’m willing to correct it.

While discussing why women are less likely to receive bystander CPR, I said that half the population has breasts. The more accurate statement is that breast tissue is not exclusive to women. Men have breast tissue too, and every person’s chest anatomy is different.

Why does this matter during cardiac arrest?

Correct CPR and AED placement may require a rescuer to touch, lift or move breast tissue. For chest compressions, place the heel of your hand in the center of the chest on the lower half of the breastbone. If tissue prevents you from finding the correct location, move it as needed.

When using an AED, expose the chest so the pads can adhere directly to bare skin. If breast tissue covers the recommended pad location, move it enough to apply the pad correctly. Follow the pictures on the AED pads and listen to the device’s instructions.

This is not sexual or inappropriate touching—it is necessary, lifesaving care. Don’t let embarrassment, modesty or fear of touching someone’s chest prevent you from acting during cardiac arrest.

Would you hesitate to perform CPR on a woman?

It’s an uncomfortable question, but an important one.

Women are less likely to receive bystander CPR, and one reason is hesitation about exposing the chest or touching the breasts. That’s exactly why training matters.

Half the population has breasts. CPR training should reflect real life.

These newer manikins are designed to help break that barrier, normalize proper hand placement, and prepare rescuers for the real world — so hesitation doesn’t cost someone their life.

Be honest: Do you think training on a manikin like this makes a difference?

One of the biggest fears parents have about infant CPR is: “What if I break my baby’s ribs?”

The risk of doing nothing in cardiac arrest is far greater than the risk of injury from CPR.

For an infant, compress the chest at least ⅓ of its depth — about 1.5 inches (4 cm) — at a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute.

Don’t let fear make your compressions too shallow. If a baby is in cardiac arrest, effective compressions can save their life. ❤️

Save this post and share it with a parent, grandparent, babysitter, or caregiver.

Most of us have a fire extinguisher somewhere in the house… but would you actually know how to use it in an emergency? 🧯🔥

Remember PASS:

P — Pull the pin
A — Aim at the BASE of the fire
S — Squeeze the handle
S — Sweep side to side

Knowing what to do BEFORE an emergency happens can make all the difference.

⚠️ Only attempt to extinguish a small, manageable fire if you have a clear escape route. If the fire is spreading, get out and call 911.

Save this so you remember PASS — and send it to someone who has a fire extinguisher but probably hasn’t practiced using one. 👀

Full-circle moment! ❤️

About 10 years ago, I met Karl, owner of Code One Safety, and over the years we’ve stayed connected as fellow business owners in the CPR/AED world. We’ve partnered on AED sales, helped each other out with classes, and shared plenty of ideas along the way.

A few months ago, we had the chance to visit Karl and check out his RQI setup. This week, he was traveling through Knoxville and returned the favor by stopping by CPR Choice!

We gave him the grand tour, talked shop, and since Karl also happens to be a fire captain, we couldn’t let him leave without putting him to work. 😂 He helped us film a quick video on how to properly use a fire extinguisher—coming soon!

One of my favorite parts of this industry is the relationships we’ve built with other training centers and business owners across the country. There’s plenty of room to collaborate, learn from each other, and ultimately work toward the same goal: helping more people be prepared to save a life.

Thanks for stopping by, Karl! Always good to see you. ❤️

One of the biggest fears we hear in CPR classes:
“What if I get sued…or accused of something for doing CPR?”

Don’t let that fear stop you from helping.

Good Samaritan laws exist to protect people who provide emergency care in good faith. Performing CPR on a woman’s chest is lifesaving care—not sexual assault. And when someone is in cardiac arrest, doing CPR gives them a chance they may not have without you.

If someone collapses and isn’t breathing normally, call 911, start CPR and use an AED as soon as one is available.

Don’t hesitate because you’re afraid to help. ❤️
