“Doc, I need a pop”. Yes, I get it, many times you hear an audible sound when receiving an adjustment. But what’s really going on behind the scenes?? a precise sensory signal reaches the brainstem, engages the vagus nerve, and helps the body shift from fight-or-flight into rest, digest, and heal mode.

Here’s what’s actually happening…

MECHANORECEPTOR/ NOCICEPTION ACTIVATION: The adjustment wakes up motion & pain sensors packed into the Periosteum, Joint Capsules & and the Muscles of the spine, the densest cluster of these in the entire body.

BRAINSTEM RECEPTION: That signal races up to the brainstem, the part of the brain running heart rate, breathing, digestion, and stress mode.

CORTICAL INTEGRATION: The brain gets an updated map of where the body is and how much tension it’s holding, and recalibrates.
