🔥 … It’s not about creating future Olympians or college athletes with scholarships. It’s about creating a lifelong love of fitness. That exercise is fun, not punishment.
🔥I see too many kids with their faces glued to a screen. Let’s start including them in our activities. Yes, I sometimes have to sacrifice my own workout to help my daughter “workout” with me. But the answers to growing obesity, childhood type II diabetes, and rising anxiety rates include much more engagement, inclusion, and adventure off a screen.
🔥As a community, that also means we need to be ok with loud kids, interruptions on occasion, messy spaces, and creating a culture where failure and mistakes are embraced as a normal part of the process. It doesn’t mean the kids rule the roost- there is still structure, expectations, and boundaries. But we can’t expect to have a thriving society if we get upset at loud kids at the restaurant because they’re not on a screen.
🔥I recognize this is the hard way of doing things. Thank you Sophie Brock (& everyone else taking class) for your patience as I dragged my screaming kid out of the 3pm class yesterday because I moved her cones “too early.” It’s not always going to go according to plan. But I’m sure gonna try again. Because the alternative is a different kind of death.
K, rant over 🫠 Thanks for being here.
