September 10 is World Su***de Prevention Day, a reminder that honest conversations, early support and access to care can save lives.
Suicidal thoughts do not always look the way we expect. Warning signs may include withdrawing from others, expressing hopelessness, giving away meaningful belongings, sudden changes in mood or talking about feeling like a burden.
If you are worried about someone, ask them directly how they are feeling, listen without judgment and help them connect with support. Asking about su***de does not increase the risk.
It can open the door to an important conversation.
If you or someone you know needs immediate support, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. Veterans, service members and their loved ones can call 988 and press 1. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
You are not alone. Help is available, and it is always okay to reach for it.
