Mark Stephen Merritt, Jr., of Colquitt, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Colquitt with Rev. Bobby Whitaker and Jeff Cox officiating. Interment to follow at Merritt Family Farms with Greg Calhoun, Jeff Cox, Roger Wayne Davis, Cory Pickle, Vann Hornsby, Jeff Williams, Benji Holt, and Jeremy Middleton serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be C**t Richardson, Calhoun Richardson, and Cohen Richardson. Visitation will be Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Colquitt.

Mark was a farmer and a member of First Baptist Church of Colquitt and currently attended Thompson Town Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Victoria Franklin Merritt of Colquitt, GA; two sisters, Misti Merritt Middleton and Mindi Kristina Merritt both of Colquitt, GA; niece and nephew, Merritt Victoria Middleton and Bowen Keith Middleton, Jr. of Colquitt, GA; and maternal grandmother, Barbara Johnson of Lake Seminole, GA. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Mark Stephen Merritt, Sr.; maternal grandfather, Gene Franklin; and paternal grandparents, Dr. Hinton and Ruth Dinwiddie Merritt.

Ms. Suanne Chapman of Colquitt, GA, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Early Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Barwick officiating. Interment will follow in the Colquitt City Cemetery with GJ Widner, Chris Daughtry, Michael Daughtry, Keith Stinson, Jason Holt, and Guy Stovall serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church.

Ms. Suanne formerly worked for Ameris Bank and attended Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Lee Chapman, of Colquitt, GA; eight grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Chapman, Kimberly Brooke Chapman, Emilee Kate Chapman, Angel (George) Cross, A.W. (Shawndra) Rhodes, Cody (Katie) Osborn, Heather (David) Floyd, and Tommy (Tiffany) Meadows; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Ruby Grace) Stinson of Abbeville, AL; and one sister, Faye Daughtry, of Abbeville, AL. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Shay Chapman; four brothers, Jerry Stinson, Charlie Stinson, Bob Stinson, and Mark Stinson; and her parents, Lillian and James Stinson.

Mr Christopher Dewayne Phillips of Colquitt passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026 at his residence. Mr Phillips will be cremated with a memorial service held at a later date.

Mr Phillips was a self employed carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Misty Phillips of Colquitt, two sons, Brandon Frazier, Matthew Umanzor both of Colquitt and one daughter, Destiny Frazier of Colquitt. One granddaughter Isabella Umanzor. His mother, Brenda (Allan) Sands of Dothan and his father Curtis Phillips of Eldorendo, one brother, Curtis (Nora) Phillips of Colquitt, one sister, Cassie Phillips of Donalsonville. Father in law, Eddie (Joanne) Frazier of Baker Hill, AL., Mother in law, Rita Barkley of Colquitt, brother in law, Robert Frazier of Colquitt , uncle, Eugene Phillips of Donalsonville. Many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Lucy.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM, in Colquitt City Cemetery, with Rev. Fletcher Sheffield officiating the service. Pallbearers will be Casey Givens, Rodney Bryan, Tony Givens, Kenneth Pickren, Tycen Tomms, and Ronnie Thompson.

Mrs. Margaret was a home maker. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Fletcher Sheffield; three daughters, Sharon Braswell, Debra (Rodney) Bryan, and Marilyn Givens, all of Colquitt, GA; six grandchildren, Nicole Parker, Erika Tomms, TomiLynn (Ronnie) Thompson, Kendra (Daniel) Garrick, Macey (Todd Cook) Givens, and Casey (Heather) Givens; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Cathy Hobbs, of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Becky Pickren; one grandson, Sheffield Duncan; one brother, Bill Stuart; one sister, Linnie Pate; and parents, William Stuart and Catherine Maxwell Kelt.

Thomas Edward Brown, 95, of Colquitt, Georgia passed away September 22, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Bellview Free Will Baptist Church with Roger Merritt and Bro. David Young officiating. Bud Brown, Roger Merritt, Roger Mills, Kreg Freeman, Nolan Freeman, and Jeff Cox will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Clenney, Lavon Clenney, Joe Martin, and Johnny Still. Online visitors may sign the guest registry at www.colquittfuneralhome.info. Thomas Edward Brown was born January 12, 1931 in Colquitt, Georgia the son of W.P. and Bessie Haire Brown. He married Hester Haire and they made their home in Miller County. He was a member of Bellview Free Will Baptist Church and faithfully attended services every Sunday. He raised his children to be faithful and Godly as well. Edward defined Farmer in every sense of the word. He never truly retired from farming and in fact planted his last garden of new potatoes and tomatoes early this year surrounded by his family working beside him as he smiled. He loved the outdoors, he loved family fish fries, and he loved animals, particularly cows and horses. His passion in life was farming. He loved the land, the tractors, the harvests, and most of all the fact that he spent every day doing it beside his late brother Don. Most would say his favorite part of farming though was his cattle. No one loved bringing home a motherless calf and bottle feeding it more than Edward and he could move a herd of cows with one of his “pets” at any time. His greatest joy; however, was his family. His best friend and loving wife of over 72 years, his three daughters, and his three granddaughters. He will be fondly remembered by many for his firm handshakes, warm smiling eyes, and his humble heart. Edward loved God and loved his neighbors and shared his harvests with many over the years. He is now reunited with his brother Don where they will tend the Heavenly fields and gardens of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife Hester Brown of Colquitt, GA; his children, Kathy Brown Hutchins and her husband, Allen of Donalsonville, GA, Lynn Brown of Colquitt, GA; and Sandy Brown Rentz of Bainbridge, GA; his grandchildren, Laura Leigh Hutchins, Isabella Rentz, and Abigail Rentz; his sister, Eloise Holt; and several loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Brown, Sr., Merlene Dunlap, Carolyn Meredith, Oral Brown, and Max Brown.

Mr. Tracy Eugene Kimbrel of Albany, formerly of Colquitt, passed away on September 18, 2026 at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, GA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Cooks Union Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Watson officiating. Interment to follow at Cooks Cemetery with Bobby Alan Smith, Luke Cook, Reggie Everson, and Randy Brown serving as active pallbearers. Visitation will held one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at the church.

Mr. Kimbrel was retired paramedic from Early County Medical Services a member of Cooks Union Methodist Church and was a member of the Walter C Dancer Lodge #115 in Colquitt.

He is survived by his wife, Rachelle Kimbrel of Albany; his two sons, Alan Kimbrel of Albany and Josh Kimbrel of Americus; and his two dogs Roxy and Gracie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mildred Kimbrel, and one brother, Marty Kimbrel.

Mrs Gordon was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Olive Holiness Church.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Teresa Wells and Thomas (Becky) Gordon; three great-grandchildren, Kelli (Tristan) Spence, Abigale Haywood, and Jaxon Gordon; three great-great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Toliver, Brady Toliver, and Charleigh Spence; two brothers, Lyne (Gail) Widner of Colquitt, GA, and Kenneth (Mottie) Widner of Climax, GA; and two sisters, Jewann Johnson and Clara Hart, both of Colquitt, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Gordon; one son, Harold Thomas Gordon; one great-grandson, Tristan Haywood; four brothers, Harry Widner, Joe Widner, Jimmy Widner, and LaDon Widner; and two sisters, Mary Alice Gruber and Debra Gail Widner.

Interment will follow in Kelley Cemetery with Travis Kelley, Matthew Cleveland, Jeremy Kelley, Scott Kelley, Zach Kelley, Samuel Sheffield, Matthew Brooks, William Brooks, Hayes Cleveland, Mandy Kelley Griffin, Shay Kelley, and Danielle Sheffield serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church.

Kim retired from Miller County Hospital after 23 years and had recently returned to work part-time. She attended Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church. Kim loved with all of her heart. Her nieces and nephews were lovingly regarded as her own babies, and she didn't have "step-children" or "step-grandchildren"; she simply loved them as her own. She was a passionate and faithful Georgia Bulldog fan. Kim loved to travel, especially trips to the beach.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jimmy "Bo" Haywood; son, Michael Haywood of Colquitt, GA; daughter, Melissa (Shep) Sheppard of Tallahassee, FL; four grandsons, Matthew (BreAnna) Cleveland, Seth Cleveland, Hayes Cleveland, and Ridge Haywood; three great-grandkids, Cadence Cleveland, Aurora Cleveland, and Caizyn Cleveland; three brothers, Kevin (Cindy) Kelley of Colquitt, GA, Danny (Nina) Kelley of Ochlocknee, GA, and Brian (Sherrie) Kelley of Colquitt, GA; one sister, Lee Anne (Danny) Sheffield of Colquitt, GA; seven nephews, Travis Kelley, Jeremy (Leah) Kelley, Scott (Kolbey) Kelley, Zach Kelley, Samuel Sheffield, Matthew (Marianna) Brooks, and William Brooks; three nieces, Mandy Kelley Griffin, Shay Kelley, and Danielle Sheffield; along with many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; one brother-in-law, Jimmy (Susan) Haywood; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Edwards and Abigail Richardson; and very special life-long friend, Sandy Stolze. Mrs. McCormick was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Randy (Sherry) McCormick; one daughter, Angie (Gary) Leddon; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Danny Revells; and one sister, Mary Buckhalter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Willard McCormick; one daughter, Lori Ann McCormick; and her parents, James and Lillie Mae Revells.

Jean Evelyn Adams

Jean Evelyn Adams, affectionately known as “Nanny,” to those closest to her, was born on April 5, 1949, at Mitchell County Hospital. From an early age, she developed a deep and abiding relationship with Christ. As a young girl, she would often walk by herself to the neighborhood church on Sunday mornings. That early foundation would set the pace for the rest of her life, as she leaned heavily on her Christian faith and spent countless hours praying for and serving those in need.

Jean lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and selfless love. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was always asking how she could help and never asking for anything in return. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel cared for, and her generosity came not from what she had, but from who she was.

Jean came from humble beginnings and lived a simple life, finding little value in the luxuries and excess that so many of us often pursue. With her dear late husband, Eddie, the two built a successful family farm and, more importantly, built a family grounded in love, faith, hard work, and devotion. Jean and Eddie raised and nurtured their family with unwavering commitment, and their love for their children and grandchildren never ceased.

For those fortunate enough to have sat down at Jean's table, there was no better cook in this world. Her meals were more than food—they were an ascension to an otherworldly culinary experience that typically required an afternoon nap to recover from. Her cakes fetched several hundred dollars each at auctions and her penchant for creating entirely new recipes was something to experience.

Jean never sought recognition for the good she did. She simply lived her life faithfully, loved her family deeply, served others willingly, and trusted in Christ. Her legacy is not found in possessions, but in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Kristy) and Darrell (Niki); her daughter, Barbara; and her grandchildren, Reagan and Garrett Cox, Conner and Cason Priest, Will and Taylor Cox, Ryan and Adrian Sadler, and Madalyn Yancey. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Harvey, mother, Margaret Royal and husband, Eddie Adams.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5pm till 7pm at the family home located at 1315 Ponderosa Lane, Bainbridge. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
