Martin Luther King Jr... At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.

On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city, he was assassinated.

He encouraged a life of service, urging people to find purpose in helping others.

How to Remember Him:

Serve Your Community: Participate in volunteerism and civic engagement, making MLK Day a national day of service.

His Enduring Impact:

King's dedication to justice and his belief in human dignity continue to inspire movements for human rights worldwide, reminding us that "darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that".

Habari Gani? Is the greeting for Kwanzaa which is Swahili for "What's the news?" or "How are you?" Kwanzaa was not created to give people an alternative to their own religion or religious holiday. Many African Americans who celebrate Kwanzaa do so in addition to observing Christmas. Every year, around Christmas time, you may hear some Black folks talking about celebrating Kwanzaa, many of them jokingly because they don't know the history or roots behind the holiday. Kwanzaa spans over seven days from December 26 to January 1 as a celebration of cultural heritage and traditional values, With each day focusing on a specific principle in the Black community.

Umoja (Unity):To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.

2. Kujichagulia (Self-Determination):
To define and name ourselves, as well as to create and speak for ourselves.

3. Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility):
To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and to solve them together.

4. Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics):

5. Nia (Purpose):
To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness

6. Kuumba (Creativity):
To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

7. Imani (Faith):

What are you Meditating on?

World Meditation Day is celebrated annually on December 21st, a date recently established by the United Nations to promote the mental, physical, and emotional benefits of meditation, encouraging global participation in quiet reflection for inner peace and stress reduction, linking it to holistic well-being and inner calm in a hectic world. This day serves as a global reminder to incorporate mindfulness and meditation for a more present and peaceful existence, says National Today.
