Try this: Share a feeling. Ask someone you trust to collaborate on a portrait. Instead of deciding how you want to photograph them, ask how they'd like to be seen.
Maybe they're feeling overwhelmed, hopeful, invisible, or wonderfully confident. Maybe there's something about themselves they wish other people understood.
Work together to find a way of expressing their idea. Choose a location, a few props, or a particular camera angle. Let them experiment, too.
This isn't about guessing how somebody feels or making them reveal something private. Let them decide how much they want to share.
And if you'd rather work alone, make a self-portrait. You don't even have to show your face.
The idea is to let the person experiencing the feeling help create the photograph.
