I'm Brittany Shepherd, a Certified Birth Doula in Columbia, South Carolina. I'm married to my best friend, Dustin, and our babes are two rescue pups named Moose and Tilly Mae!

It's a privilege of mine to get to be a vessel for sharing Christ's love as a birth doula, as I get excited to help equip women with education and empowerment for their unique labor + birth journey. A significant moment th

at led me to birth work was having the honor to be at my only sister’s side for her first birth. I knew from this precious experience that I wanted to do life walking alongside women as they prepare to meet their little one, offering intentional and devoted care every step of the way!

Along with my education gained from becoming a Certified Birth Doula (AWWS), I'm also a Certified VBAC Doula (TVL), and I'm familiar with the Spinning Babies® Approach and attended the Spinning Babies® workshop for birth professionals February 2024.

Oh how I’ve missed the days of getting to sit & chat with potential doula clients 🥹 what a lovely way to start off a Monday morning with some coffee & some conversation about birth ✨ (and then coming home to my sweet doggy babies) 🤍

It’s always an honor to be able to be part of these precious, such vulnerable moments of labor and birth every single time. I love just also getting to capture what moments I can for families while they are just doing what they normally do: loving on each other & caring for one another in the most beautiful, natural of ways 🫶🏼

Each photo from a birth is literally worth a million words to me because so much has been and is going on behind the scenes, physically and emotionally, and it’s such a beautiful, privileged experience to get to witness and see ✨

Forward-leaning inversion is one of my favorite moves from that can be used during pregnancy and labor to help create space in the pelvis and encourage baby into a more optimal position ( which we 🤍)

It’s all about working with your body and giving baby the opportunity to move and settle into your pelvis for birth ✨

This movement can also be used during pregnancy to help relieve back, hip, or tailbone discomfort for some when done appropriately.

Every pregnancy and labor is different, but having tools like this of the many that support optimal movement can make a big difference in how confident and prepared you feel as you move through the journey of meeting your little one 🫶🏼

(As always, listen to your body and make sure this movement is a good fit for you & check with your provider if you’re unsure 🤍)

What’s something extra special about doula support? Getting that text from a mama saying, “Guess what, I need your services again!” 🤩✨

There’s something so meaningful about continuing a relationship with a family in this way. As with birth you never know how things will go, and each time this mama was so mentally prepared and had her trust fully in the Lord’s hands the entire process for meeting her babies.

Being her first experience went a little (fast and furious) 😆 we got to spend a bit more time together the second go round, and it was so sweet getting to have her essential oils going, her lovely worship music playing, and seeing her lean so heavily on the Lord’s strength with her husband right there at her side.

How precious it is to get to have these moments with such wonderful people 🤍

I wanted to share a little update since it’s been a minute that I’m officially back offering doula support 🫶🏼

I recently stepped away from nursing school and feel so at peace returning to the heart of what I truly love, which is supporting women through pregnancy and birth 🤗

Whether it’s chatting together during a prenatal visit, supporting you in the sweet space of your labor and birth, or simply sitting with you as we revisit your birth experience while you hold your new little one, this work means the world to me. It’s always an honor to be invited into such a special space.

What a privilege getting to spend your birthday doing what you love to do (and now having a new buddy to share this sweet day with!) 🥳🤍 can’t believe the sweet babe in this photo is 2 years old today, and now today I’m getting to spend time with an expecting mama and a newly postpartum mama on their sweet journeys ✨

these precious looks shared are just such priceless memories ✨ it was so precious after birth when everyone was settling in to capture this tiny moment of dad holding his new little one with sweet music playing in the background, with mom looking over so sweetly just soaking in the precious moment of them cuddling close together after the amazing work she did to bring baby in this world for her VBAC 🤍 (I think we almost all were in tears at that sweet little moment in time) 🥹

getting to doula alongside one of my absolute favorite midwives is always a treat!! 🤩 so thankful for women like this who have encouraged me in the field of midwifery, and made it so easy as a doula these past few years to recommend their care as providers because of how dedicated, supportive, and passionate they are for the women who they care for ✨

I’ve always said the reason I got into doula-ing was the relational aspect of it all getting to support so many women and her families. it’s been such a sweet surprise to make so many new friends from providers and nurses I’ve gotten to work alongside who have the same heart and desire for caring for women in the same beautiful way as they bring their little one in the world.

at a birth recently I got to see a nurse friend I hadn’t seen since earlier this year and the first thing she says is, “hold on I have a gift for you”, and comes back with this just out of the blue. it was such a sweet surprise and a reminder of how much it means to me that I get to meet such wonderful people because of doula work and now get to call those folks sweet friends ✨

in our 4 years of marriage I’m grateful for continued growth & pursuing more of the Lord together, especially this past year for just how much we’ve taken what we learned in the first couple years and putting it all into practice with just loving each other well even more in so many different areas 🤍

I’m grateful for the challenges & hardships especially, being we’ve learned so much already by walking through them together, getting to encourage & support each other. And at the end of the day it’s sure fun to a have a best friend to do this life with ✨

it’s always a privilege when the women I get to serve in turn gift me with their beautiful, precious words ✨ I have always loved words, as they have just meant so much to me and I found so much meaning in them. notes, letters, words - they just hold so much weight and you get to hold them forever 🤍

I thought it would be quite sweet to get to hear from a few clients’ perspectives how they would compare their doula support to simply anything they could come up with! especially knowing these words came from their personal experiences and perspectives of our time together, it was really a treat to get to share this!
