Relationships don't come with warning labels. But if they did, here's what some of the signs might look like.
Smartwatch — constant location tracking may cause a loss of privacy and pressure to always be reachable
Headphones — one-sided listening may cause feeling dismissed or talked over
Compass — only pointing in one direction may cause a narrowed world and loss of other relationships
Coffee — anxiety before every text may cause racing thoughts and constant phone-checking
Receipt — a running tab of what they've done for you may cause guilt and difficulty saying no
Camera — disregard for privacy and consent may cause photos or messages shared without permission
Not every unhealthy relationship looks the same. Sometimes it's pressure. Sometimes it's isolation. Sometimes it's walking on eggshells. Real relationships don't come with warning labels — that's exactly why the signs are worth learning.
The one label we'd want on every relationship? Trust, respect, communication, and consent. That's what True North contains.
