There's something about their handwriting that no photo can replace. The grocery list, the birthday card, the recipe scribbled in the margin. Here are five simple ways to keep their words close:

1. Frame a handwritten note or recipe card
2. Scan their letters so they're preserved forever
3. Order a piece of jewelry engraved with their handwriting
4. Print a favorite recipe on a tea towel or cutting board
5. Turn their signature into a keepsake ornament

Some are free, some are small splurges, but all of them turn a few written words into something you can hold onto.

There's a whole world inside the people who raised us. First loves, hard decisions, the stories behind the old photographs. We always assume we'll have time to ask. And then one day, the asking isn't possible anymore. So ask now. Pull up a chair this weekend and let them talk.

👋Meet Christopher Taylor, a Funeral Director and Embalmer at Heritage. A native Texan, Christopher has called Middle Tennessee home since 1987. He earned a psychology degree from David Lipscomb College and a mortuary degree from John A. Gupton College, both in Nashville, and he's been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer for his entire 35+ year career, working his way from, in his own words, ""low man on the totem pole"" all the way to owner.

After 16 years serving families in Lewisburg, Christopher and his family settled in Columbia, where they still reside on what they affectionately call ""Taylor Mountain."" In July 2025 he returned to full-time funeral service to help the Heritage family by overseeing daily operations in the Care Center and Crematory. You may not catch him at every service, but his careful work behind the scenes touches each family we serve.

When he isn't working, Christopher and his wife Marcey, active members of the Church at Station Hill, can be found tending their flowerbeds or traveling. Together they're proud parents to Russell and Cynthia, and son-in-law Corey.

What's the difference between a funeral, a memorial, and a celebration of life? It's one of the most common questions families ask us, and understanding it can make a hard decision feel a little clearer.

A funeral is traditionally held within a few days of passing, and often follows a more formal or religious structure.

A memorial service takes place later, sometimes days, weeks, or even months after, which allows more flexibility on timing and location.

A celebration of life is usually less formal and more personal. The focus shifts from mourning the loss to honoring the life: the laughter, the passions, the moments that made them them.

There's no "right" choice. There's only the one that feels true to the person you're honoring. And whatever you choose, we're here to help you create it.
