Happy to share outdoor yoga with some of the LUY family! Every other Saturday, enjoy outdoor yoga at Riverwalk or Woodland park. It gives you a break from my voice and you get to take a traditional yoga class instead of my bonkers sessions! Come out and support yoga in our community.

Protein seems to be shoved in our face lately. You might be like me and totally confused about how much do I REALLY need. If I went by the 1 for 1 rule, I would basically be needing to eat a chicken breast smoothie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then, I wouldn't have any room for the other important macro - FIBER! And, we can't forget about fruits and vegetables!!!!! The above diagram is for minimum. If you aren't there yet, let that be your goal.
I, personally, strive for 80-90g a day but most days I'm close. I made the mistake of trying too hard to reach a giant protein goal and either ate too many calories or missed out on the other good nutritious foods.

A question was asked this morning about protein. It started with one and then more came. So, let's talk about it.
The very 1st thing I must start off with is - I am NOT a registered Dietitian. I can share things I do and prefer/not prefer. I can share my favorite RDs. All this means is, let's talk and go from there. This will be a multi part post so check back for more info!
My favorite RDs:ptnutrition (Lydia is local!!!!!)
Bonnie Roney RD - dietculturerebel
Jessica Knurick, PhD, RD

Things to share:
Why protein is important?
How much should I really get?
What are some good protein short cuts?
What to save my money on?
Can you share some recipes?
Social media influencers to check out and ones to avoid?

Feel free to add more questions!!!!!

You never know when yoga has an added bonus benefit!
An 80+ year old student's has been working every day towards a goal of getting up and down from the floor without hands. One particular exercise they practiced daily was squatting up and down using a doorway. Student recently attended a wedding and the dance floor was on fire. So was the student's dancing and getting down low skills!
Way to show off those yoga skills!!!!!
Keep practicing. Keep moving!

To quote my favorite local area Registered Dietitian (climbperformacetherapies), "eat the f@$&ing banana!".
But, let's point out that 80-90% of Americans do not meet the daily intake of fruit. America is number 3 in the world for food safety but yet we follow folks that give scare tactics to gain followers or subscriptions.
Now, go make your smoothie and enjoy it guilt free!

Our bonkers fun balance challenge this week is Godzilla. Mostly, this is fun for me to watch but you might chuckle a time or 2. We have been working on moving balance challenges. Now, we add obstacles in our way, shifting our center of gravity, and maybe encountering traffic along our Godzilla destruction path.
Hope you are enjoying crazy balance month. We might go back to boring balance next month. Maybe.

I had a lovely story shared this morning thanking the holy heck out of yoga and all our balance challenges!

Student was working from home and busy busy busy. They noticed their shoe was untied but that takes time (totally can relate there!). So, when the student needed to go downstairs 6 steps to a landing then 13 more steps down, the shoelace demanded attention. Student say their life flash before their eyes and knew imminent doom was coming. But, the mind body connection kicked in and death was pushed off. No fall occurred.

Woohoo!!!!! We can't prevent all falls but we can save us from some doozies! Love how this yoga thing works.

Keep practicing. Keep balancing!

Is your garden starting to flood with cucumbers or you picked up a few extra at the farmers market? Then try one of my fav summertime dips/spreads - Benedictine
There are several recipes online so I encourage you to experiment but keep the ingredients simple. Here's mine:
2-4 cucumbers (depending on size)
Block of cream cheese (Tillamook is my fav)
1-2 tsp onion powder (literally refuse to chop onion)
Salt as preferred
Dash of cayenne pepper as preferred
Drop of spirulina for color effect (if you're like me and obsessed with colors)
I grate up my cucumbers, squeeze out excess liquid but keep the liquid). Throw everything in the blender. If it's too thick, add some of the reserved cucumber juice.
Benedictine is perfect for sitting outside with some veggies, crackers, and a bottle of wine.
Enjoy!
