The colorization of old photos brings alive our ancestors from long ago! This circa 1900 photo was shared on Ancestry several years ago and notes three sons of my 3rd great grand-uncle. Their grandfather, Joshua Spain (1759-1849), was one a group of settlers who came from Dinwiddie County, VA to establish North Lewisburg, Ohio. Meet the three brothers: John W. Spain (1835-1917), Enoch Spain (1827-1907), and Philander Spain (1821-1910). These were 3 of 8 sons who served in the Union Army, there 15 siblings in total-3 girls and 12 boys.

Meet the brother of my Great Grandfather, William Sidney Pease, John Wesley Pease (1861-1952). When John in Pierceville, Indiana, his father, James, was 25 and his mother, Rachel, was 28. He married Emma Gladys Sebree and they had four children together. He then married Ida Mae (Addie) Ellis and they had six children together. He died on May 1, 1952, in Cold Spring, Kentucky, at the age of 91, and was buried in Petersburg, Kentucky. I have few photos of this generation on my father's mother's side, so I'm appreciative for the cousin who shared this.

A sweet reminder of the day when my father's parents were married. Robert J Spain and Myrtle Pease were united in marriage on October 24, 1925 in Portsmouth Ohio. Portsmouth was where Myrtle and her family had moved to after living in Kentucky.

An update on one of the oldest members of the Spain Family Tree!
John Tower, my 9th great-grandfather, (1609-1701) baptized in Hingham, England. John is considered the found of the Tower Family in America!

"John left England and arrived in Massachusetts on June 1, 1637 and married Margaret Ibrook on February 13, 1638 in Charlestown.
He was one of the proprietors of Hingham, Massachusetts were he settled on Bachelor's Row (now Main Street). He initially started out with three acres of land and through the years purchased more acreage. He had also purchased some acres in Cohasset (then part of Hingham).
In 1645 he was one of the seven men chosen to oversee the prudential affairs of the town.
Some of the occupations that he was listed as having were: farmer, planter, way-warden, constable, and fence-viewer.
In 1675, during King Philip’s War, John was allowed to fortify his house with a garrison.

His house, today known as the Tower Homestead, near Tower Brook, Tower’s Bridge, and Tower Brook Road, still stands. [Although, according to William R. Cutter’s Genealogical and Personal Memoirs published in 1908: “Three of his sons built houses on this lot also, and some of the land has remained in the possession of descendants to the present time. The old house was torn down soon after 1800."
