Therapists understand the value of the services we provide to support our community.

But does the public? Does our state Legislature?

Dr. Monique Barber interviews Representative Steve Tanner and breaks down this topic.

He answers how we can educate others about the counseling field, how we can show the legitimacy in the type of care we provide, and what information may not be well known to others that is important for them to know.

In the latest Legislative Forum with Representative Tanner, we learn about:

✅ Professional Identity and HB 545 (The Military Chaplain Bill)
✅ The Counseling Compact
✅ Medicaid Challenges and changes
✅ Advocacy Strategy to support the counseling profession

We want to remind everyone that April is Counseling Awareness Month. Even though April is almost over, the importance doesn’t go away.

We are proud to announce that Governor Brad Little officially signed a proclamation recognizing April as Counseling Awareness Month in Idaho. 🙌

This step is crucial in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations about mental health and advocating for the mental health care professions.

To all the counselors, mental health professionals, and advocates—thank you for your dedication to advocating for and supporting counselors and those in our communities that need access to our services. 🌟

Let’s keep the conversation going! 📲 Feel free to share this post and tag Idaho Counseling Association to spread awareness across the state.

What a fantastic Idaho Counseling Association Leadership Development Institute (LDI) last Saturday, followed by an inspiring awards ceremony! Thank you to our officers, chairs, and emerging leaders who joined us to learn, connect, and grow.

LDI’s purpose is leadership training for upcoming ICA leaders. We focused on:

1. Provided CEUs for boundaries and ethics.
2. Hosted a free event that demonstrated our investment in the membership and upcoming leadership.
3. Offered a comprehensive overview of ICA and how to get involved in leadership, including upcoming strategic planning.
4. Facilitated a personal connection with our newest sponsor, Blue Cross, to build a strong partnership.
5. Created an opportunity for chairs and board members to interact with participants during the speed committee event.

Leadership development expands our capacity to execute strategy, build alignment, grow others’ capabilities, and identify future leaders in the organization.

Reminder: LDI attendance is REQUIRED to be considered in the June elections.

We are stronger together. 💙
