Empowering Kids Pediatric Therapy

Empowering Kids Pediatric Therapy Empowering Kids Pediatric Therapy is a private practice owned and operated by Melissa Philippsen.

Empowering Kids Pediatric Therapy offers a fun and welcoming environment geared toward assisting your child in achieving their Speech, Language, and Fine Motor skill goals. Our goal is to individually work with your child in order to best support him or her in achieving their communication and fine motor skill potential. We use play based therapy to keep your child engaged and encourage generaliza

tion of skills to his/her natural environment. Our team is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for your child. It is our goal to provide your child with high quality, individualized therapy sessions. We are honored to work with children in our community to achieve their highest potential in their speech, language and fine motor skills. Our speech and occupational therapists will engage your child in a friendly, fun way as they challenge them to work towards their goals. We enjoy working alongside families in order to teach them strategies to use at home, so that the child can work on their skills throughout the week, and make gains more quickly.

We are excited to support the initiative to bring an Isaiah 117 house to our county! We will be hosting our lemonade stand on Thursday, July 16th from 10 am - 2:30 pm. Thank you to Traci Andresen for heading the Isaiah 117 House Bartholomew County IN project! We are looking forward to supporting this amazing cause.

Hooray, we're making progress towards our goal! We're less than a month away, and we need you to host a lemonade stand!

Anyone at any age can join in and make a difference for kids in our community one cup at a time. Grab your co-workers, church group, youth group, sports team, civic club, neighbors, family, or friends and be part of the challenge. Help us reach our goal of 50 stands all over Bartholomew County!

Hosting a stand is easy:

🍋We’re hoping you can have your stand July 17-19, but if not, pick ANY date!

🍋Decide what you’re offering at your stand - fresh squeezed lemonade, premixed, grab and go - anything works!

🍋Anything extra? Cookies, yard sale, car wash - the possibilities are endless!

🍋Sign-up using our registration link

🍋Advertise and promote your stand (we will help with this too)

🍋Decorations - be as creative with as much or little as you wish!

🍋You provide all the goodies, and we will provide you with Isaiah 117 House info cards and a yard sign!

Join us for our Second Round of Summer Reading Bootcamp!

We're having a great time in our first session and are thrilled to be able to offer a second round!

The second round will begin Tuesday, June 30th.

This camp is great for children who need to boost their reading skills, children who want to stay on target over the summer, or get ahead! Our teacher will assess each child and tailor the activities to ensure that each child is hitting their personal targets.

Our camps are intentionally small with a maximum of 4 students per camp.

Focus areas will be phonics, phonemic awareness, encoding and decoding. Our teacher will use Science of Reading backed techniques and ensure students are engaged with tactile learning opportunities.

Contact us for more information! We'd love to help your little one boost their reading skills this summer!

*Dates for the camp are:
Tuesday, June 30, Wednesday, July 1, Thursday, July 2nd
NO CLASSES WEEK OF JULY 6th

Does your child LOVE the input they get from heavy work? We love these ideas from The OT Toolbox on incorporating heavy work into your child's summer day!

During the Summer months, routines are off and it can be easy for kids to sit on screens all day. We have updated our heavy work resource article with heavy work activities for Summer Days: https://www.theottoolbox.com/heavy-work-activities/

Happy International Day of Play!

We LOVE to play at Empowering Kids and recognize that play is the BEST way for a child to learn!

Did you know that children learn skills so much faster during play? It can take hundreds of repetitions to learn a new skill, but when learned during play, it can take only 10-20 repetitions!

Play is truly the work of children.

Let your child play, climb, get dirty and explore!

Take them to a playground to allow them to learn how to use their bodies while climbing, sliding, and spinning. When you get nervous, ask them, "what's your plan?" This simple question helps a child to think through how they will move through a challenging space.

Throw an extra set of clothes, snacks, water bottle and some wipes in your bag and get outside with your child! Let the children play! 🎉

Now that we are entering the third week of summer break, your kids may start to get antsy at home. Kids love to play with water! Here are some easy water play ideas to try out this week:

💦Car Wash and Animal Bath: let your kids play with their plastic cars and animals in the dirt for a little bit. Fill a shallow tub with soapy water, hand them a washcloth, brush and towel and let them get to work cleaning their toys!

💦Empty the Bucket: fill a small bucket with water (older children can safely use a larger bucket) and instruct them to transfer the water from one bucket to another. Separate the buckets or even create a small obstacle course such as "walk around the tree and hop two times" to make it more challenging for them. Time them and see if they can do it faster the next time!

💦Water Painting: Fill a small bucket with water and hand them a paintbrush! They can "paint" the sidewalks, driveway, deck or fence. Turn it into an easy science experiment and see if they know why is disappears as it dries.

Enjoy these easy activities! 💦
