As we transition into the fall season, we are reminded that change often involves both holding on and letting go. Within the grief journey, determining what to carry forward and what to release can be especially challenging.

This month’s Sacred Circle Support Group will focus on “Knowing What to Shed,” providing an opportunity to reflect on the thoughts, emotions, expectations, and attachments we may be ready to release, while also identifying what remains meaningful and supportive.

Grief doesn’t have to leave you stuck in pain, guilt, or brokenness. You can learn to move forward in love.

Stephanie K. Starks, LISW-S, CEO & Clinical Director of Starks Counseling & Consultation, LLC, will be facilitating the Fall Grief Recovery Method Support Group, a transformative 7-week journey toward healing. The once weekly in-person group begins on Wednesday, September 23 and runs through November 4, 5:30p-7p, at the offices of Starks Counseling, 175 S. Third Street, Suite 200, 43215.

During our seven weeks together, we will:
✨ Dispel the myths and misconceptions about grief
✨ Explore how grief affects us emotionally and relationally
✨ Identify the losses that may still be impacting your life
✨ Learn healthy ways to process and express grief
✨ Take intentional steps toward completion and restoration

By the end of the group, you will have tools to help you move on—in love, not in brokenness.

Starks Counseling & Consultation, LLC is proud to celebrate our youth trauma, grief & mental health series: “Trauma Doesn’t Define You.”

We were able to provide free 90-minute workshops to three incredible organizations: She Heals. She Wins., Lead With Purpose Academy, and Beyond Enforcement. We also provided four hours of mental health support to the youth of Beyond Enforcement.

Through these workshops and support sessions, more than 100 young people learned how to:

✨ Take care of their mental health
✨ Begin healing from grief and trauma
✨ Build healthy communities of support

This work was made possible through the generous financial support of Columbus Public Health and ADAMH Board of Franklin County.

We are proud to invest in our young people—our communities’ most valuable asset. Their trauma does not define them. Their story is still being written. 💙

Join Starks Counseling & Consultation, LLC for our August Sacred Circle support group, Monday, August 10th, 6-7:30pm, as we explore healing through artistic expression, prayer and affirmation.

Our group will be lead by Erica MzEdotsoul Bell, who is a community advocate, trauma-informed coach, qualified mental health specialist and ordained minister. Her life’s mission is to help people “Heal on Purpose”.

Another week with my Beyond Enforcement babies and family!

This week we took a deeper dive into the topic of trauma. We talked about what it is, how to recognize it, and how to heal from it.

Three young people approached me about a desire to start counseling!

The NASW Ohio Chapter board and I are entering year two of my presidency! Year 1 was great despite some unexpected changes nationally. Despite that we met all of our goals!

We did what all good leaders do: we focused on the work and our team!

This year's retreat focused on where we came from, what we accomplished together, and what work is still before us.

We also made time for leadership and professional development, as well as self-care.

Thank you to Dawn Tyler Lee of Forrest Street Consulting for stopping by to teach us about high level leadership.

Thank you to our newest member of the dream team♥️, our 2nd V.P. Salima Dunn for her enlightening training on Social Workers in Burn Units. We were able to earn a CEU for that training.

Thank you to our 1st V.P. , Dr. Cynthia Tyson , who lead year 2 of our Restorative Circle.

Congratulations to our President-Elect Rebecca Prather. I look forward to supporting you in your last before you take the reigns as President of NASW Ohio.

Lastly, welcome to our newest board members and thank you to our returning board members. Your time and service is appreciated.

We spent time reflecting, rejuvenating, growing, learning and strategizing!

It has been an honor to lead this dynamic and talented group of social workers!

I look forward to our continued collective work, as well as our continued statewide growth in membership, engagement and strategic partnerships.

Thankful to the staff of Beyond Enforcement for Starks Counseling & Consultation, LLC the opportunity to educate, support and pour into the youth throughout the summer.

I was also able to observe their presentations today. They were wonderful.❤️

Starks Counseling & Consultation, LLC had the pleasure of speaking to over 20 young girls at the She Heals summer camp.

Stephanie K. Starks, LISW-S, our CEO & Clinical Director, discussed mental health, trauma and self-care.

The young ladies learned how to tell whether or not you are ok, what signs to look for, and how to seek help if needed.

They also asked questions about pursuing a career in Social Work.

Starks Counseling will be all over the city this summer educating our youth on mental health, trauma and resilience. Stay tuned!
