Doctor of Audiology students Emma Canino, Bonnie Yang, Sarah Daniels, Alyssa Gordon, Bre Ortiz and Alaina Eiterman, along with Dr. Whitelaw, participated in the Neurosparks Kids camp. It was cosponsored by the Brain Injury Association of Ohio and the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at The Ohio State University. Our students participated in an interdisciplinary team to support kids, aged 6 to 18 years, that have had head injuries and their families. It was a great few days to help “spark” recovery by supporting the development of new skills. Although hearing and listening deficits are common after head injuries, they are often easily overlooked, so it was an opportunity for us to support the campers. The campers certainly “sparked” us—when asked how their hearing was, one of our campers gave an enthusiastic response “It’s great—I have 20/20 hearing!” Thank you to all the families, our AuD students, and the rest of the NeuroSparks team for a successful camp!
