We consider it a tremendous honor and privilege to have been chosen by you to provide medical care for your child. Our goal is to recognize problems early or to prevent them by regular well-child checkups during which all aspects of health,

growth, and development will be evaluated. We specialize in pediatric care, from when your child is a newborn in the hospital, through the challenging toddler years, through camp and school physicals, all the way up until your child is preparing to leave for college.

The challenge runs through August 1st and is open to readers of all ages. We kicked off ours today and are excited to spend the summer reading together.

By offering Saturday appointments, we hope to provide convenient, affordable care while helping keep children out of emergency rooms when possible.

We are open most Saturdays and are happy to help when your child needs us.

Our pediatric practice now offers pediatric specific weight management consultations for all children in our community. We provide care not only to our own patients, but perform evaluations and consultations that allows children to continue receiving care from their regular pediatrician.

Just like adults, children and teens can struggle with weight management, and obesity is a chronic medical condition that deserves compassionate, individualized care. Every child is unique, and we work closely with families to discuss all available tools and options to support a healthier lifestyle.

During these visits, we review nutrition, activity, sleep, and other lifestyle factors. For some patients, medication may also be an appropriate option as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

We also offer free genetic testing to evaluate for genes that may contribute to weight gain and obesity.

Our goal is to help children build healthy habits now so they can grow into healthy adults.

Type 1 diabetes is one of the fastest-growing chronic health conditions affecting children and teens. Nearly 200,000 Americans under the age of 20 are living with Type 1 diabetes.

Early detection can make a difference. Our practice now offers free Type 1 diabetes screening for patients who have:
• A parent with Type 1 diabetes
• A strong family history of autoimmune conditions

If your child may qualify, please let your provider know at your next well visit so we can discuss screening.

Although it’s only the beginning of May, we are already starting to see infants and young children with sunburns in the office. Children have sensitive skin and can burn easily with sun exposure. Light clothing that covers the skin, hats, and stroller shades can help limit exposure to harmful UV rays.

For sunscreen, I recommend mineral (chemical-free) sunscreens that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, especially for young infants and children. Sunscreen should be applied at least 30 minutes before going outside and reapplied regularly.

Parents often ask which brands I recommend. Personally, I like Neutrogena Baby and Blue Lizard sunscreens (no financial relationship — they are simply what I use for my own children).
