In my work with private clients, feeding interactions and the feeding dynamic (or vibe) between parents and their children come up a lot.
It can be a juggle to navigate feeding your child when they’re selective about food, demonstrate eating behaviors that may frustrate you, or have limitations or concerns about nutrition that take priority.
But I believe if you understand your own history of childhood feeding and how it plays out in your own home and with your own kids, you have a leg up on these challenges.
We all have a hairstyle, a fashion style, a style of walking and talking, and more. You also have a parental feeding style.
Your feeding style reflects the general attitudes and philosophies you have about how to feed your child.
There are four recognized parental feeding styles: Controlling, Indulgent, Uninvolved and Diplomatic.
Each of these influence the daily feeding practices and interactions around the meal table, as well as your child’s eating habits, eating behaviors, and relationship with food.
