Words don’t appear out of nowhere. Long before Littles begin talking, they’re building a foundation of skills that make communication possible. 💛
👀 Eye Gaze: Looking toward people, objects or activities to gather information and connect.
🌼 Attending: noticing and staying engaged with a person sound or activity.
😊 Social-emotional affect: sharing, smiles, excitement, curiosity, and other emotions during interactions.
👋🏾 Gestures: reaching, pointing, waving, showing, and using body movements to communicate before words.
‼️Consider talking to a professional if your little:
👉🏾 rarely shares smiles, excitement, or enjoyment with you
👉🏾 seldom looks toward people, voices, or interesting objects
👉🏾 rarely uses gestures such as waving, pointing, showing
👉🏾 loses social or communication skills they previously used
