Have you ever wondered why leaving the park, changing plans, or getting ready for bed can suddenly become a full-blown meltdown?

For children who have experienced trauma, transitions may feel like more than a simple change. Their nervous system may experience them as danger.

The encouraging news is that challenging behavior is often communication, and with the right support, children can learn to feel safer during change.

Join me for a one-hour virtual workshop where we’ll look beneath the behavior, identify hidden triggers, and explore practical ways to bring more preparation, predictability, and connection into everyday transitions.

You’ll leave with tools to navigate setbacks, reconnect after difficult moments, and help your child build greater safety, resilience, and confidence.

Comment “SCRIPTS” to receive my complete collection of parent phrases for handling big emotions around losing.

WAIT… don’t just say goodbye. Give them a little piece of YOU to take with them. Starting school for the first time—or heading back after summer—can bring BIG feelings for kids (and parents!).

Try creating a special handshake, hug, high-five, or little goodbye ritual that belongs just to the two of you.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. It just needs to remind your child:

“Even when we’re apart, we’re still connected.” 🥰

Save this for the first day of school and send it to a parent who might need this reminder! 💛

🧠 Family game night is about so much more than having fun.

Many games naturally build executive functioning skills like:

✅ Focus
✅ Planning
✅ Impulse control
✅ Flexible thinking

These are the skills children use every day to solve problems, manage emotions, follow directions, and adapt when things don’t go as planned.

The best part? They’re learning without it feeling like “work.”

Some of the most meaningful opportunities for growth happen around the kitchen table. 💛

Comment “GAMES” and I’ll send you a list of my favorite games that help strengthen executive functioning skills while making family time fun!

Have you ever caught yourself reacting one way, even though you knew better?

Maybe you knew your child was simply overwhelmed, yet you responded as if they were being intentionally defiant. Or maybe you knew they would be okay at school, but your heart still raced long after you drove away.

This happens because our brains don’t just operate from what we know. They also operate from what we believe.

Our logical brain can understand the facts, while our emotional brain holds experiences, fears, and beliefs that shape our reactions. In everyday life, we often don’t act on what we know. We act on what we believe.

The encouraging part is that awareness is the first step. As we begin to understand our own patterns, we become better equipped to respond with intention instead of reacting from old beliefs.

🧊 Imagine your child’s emotional development like a cup of ice.

When trauma happens, parts of a child’s emotional growth can become “frozen” at the age the hurt occurred. That doesn’t mean they stop growing physically or intellectually. It means their emotional responses may still reflect the needs, fears, and coping strategies of a much younger child.

As healing begins, those frozen places don’t melt because of consequences or correction. They begin to soften through consistent warmth, safety, and connection.

Here’s something many parents don’t realize:

The biggest emotional outbursts often happen with the parent a child feels safest with.

Not because you caused the hurt.

Because you’ve become the safe place where healing can finally begin.

Often, the behaviors that feel the hardest to understand are the ones asking for the most connection. 💛

When we look at behavior through a trauma-informed lens, we often discover that it’s not about maturity, defiance, or being “overly dramatic.”

Sometimes it’s about developmental trauma.

When children experience trauma, their brains shift into survival mode. The skills that typically develop through feeling safe, making mistakes, managing disappointment, and trying again may not have had the opportunity to fully develop.

A child may look 13 on the outside, but emotionally respond much younger in moments of stress, frustration, or loss.

The question isn’t, “Why are they acting this way?”

The question is, “What skills did they never get the chance to learn?”

What if understanding when a child’s safety was disrupted could help explain behaviors that seem confusing today?

Join me as we explore how the age and developmental stage at which safety was disrupted can shape behavior, attachment, emotional regulation, and diagnosis.

When we understand the developmental story behind a child’s actions, we can move beyond behavior management and respond with greater confidence, connection, and compassion.

When our children push us away, it can feel confusing, frustrating, and even personal.

If you’ve ever wondered what to say in those moments, you’re not alone.

My goal is to provide practical, in-the-moment tools that help parents stay connected when their child seems distant, withdrawn, or resistant. Small shifts in how we respond can create powerful opportunities for connection.
