There’s this weird expectation that therapists should somehow have it all together all the time because we help other people navigate life.

But therapists are still people. We can struggle. We can feel angry, hurt, insecure, overwhelmed. We can have relationship issues, bad days, moments where we take things personally. None of that makes us bad therapists… it just makes us human.

Lately I’ve really connected with Brother Ali’s song Personal, especially the line:
“I’m trying not to take it personal / But I’m a person, though.”

That one hit me 💯 because honestly… same lol.

Being a therapist (or any professional) doesn’t remove your humanity. Your emotions are not weakness… they’re part of how you relate to and connect with your clients.

Sometimes people pleasing looks like:

• Rehearsing texts before you send them
• Feeling responsible for other people’s reactions
• Saying yes when you mean no… then feeling resentful later

Often, this isn’t about being “nice.” It’s about avoiding discomfort, conflict, guilt, or rejection.

Short-term relief, long-term exhaustion.

If any of these resonate, you’re not alone. And awareness is where change starts.

We’re living through a time of ongoing global stress and collective trauma, whether we name it or not.

Many of us are showing up to work, family, and responsibilities while carrying fear, grief, and exhaustion in the background.

I wanted to pause and ask:
How are you doing these days?
Truly.

No pressure to be polished or neat in your response, just human.

Honestly realizing more and more that a lot of anxiety and depression are a normal response to racism, homophobia, war, poverty, discrimination, and society at large.

Yes, I know it’s the holidays… but my brain keeps working even when we’re supposed to be “taking a break.”

That’s okay. It just means being human includes awareness, reflection, and sometimes holding space for difficult truths, even while drinking hot cocoa.

You are allowed to outgrow your survival patterns.

The behaviors that once protected you don’t have to do that anymore.

Healing often means gently noticing what no longer serves you… and it’s okay to let go of the old and choose something new.
