🍂 October is Awareness Month!! This year, we are continuing our AAC Spotlight series from 2022. Johnnie was featured three years ago, so we thought we'd re-introduce him and share updates to his AAC journey! Everyone say hello to Johnnie!! 👋

⭐ Last weekend, SLPs Cara, Julie, Haley, Lisa, Jen, Morgan B, Morgan K, Eileen, Kristen, and Melike attended the 2025 Walk for Apraxia, hosted by Apraxia Kids!

Together, our speech team raised $1,348.83 for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) research. We always love participating in the apraxia walk -- the largest CAS fundraising and awareness event in the United States! This year, Columbus Speech & Hearing came in second place for fundraising in Columbus. Great job, SLPs! You are fundraising all-stars! 🌟

Apraxia Kids is a nonprofit organization that supports children with CAS. Our speech therapists are proud to walk for this great cause and for the clients we serve. See you next year for the 2026 Walk for Apraxia! ✨

🐅🦁 Columbus Speech & Hearing is thrilled to share some highlights from our recent "Blind, Deaf, and DeafBlind Accessibility Day" at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

This event was specifically designed for Blind, Deaf, and DeafBlind individuals to enjoy the Zoo in a more accessible environment, and to further educate the public about combined vision and hearing loss.

Our CSH team set up booths with engaging activities and simulations so visitors could understand more of what it's like to be DeafBlind. 🎧🦯

DeafBlind individuals and their SSPs/CNs (Support Service Providers/Co-Navigators) walked around the zoo and enjoyed different tactile experiences throughout.

There were also ASL-interpreted "Keeper Talks," animal presentations, and more!

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this inclusive event and to the Columbus Zoo for hosting. This was the second year of the Blind, Deaf, and DeafBlind Accessibility Day, and we look forward to participating again next year!

Last week, AAC Coordinator Cara and CSH Clinician Mila attended Nationwide Children's 5th Annual IMPAACT Summit! 💡

Cara and Mila connected with AAC professionals across central Ohio and explored the latest Assistive Technology in hands-on labs. 💬✨

Our AAC Clinic is now scheduling evaluations for children and adults who may benefit from AAC. Call us at 614-263-5151 to learn more!
