I like to have honest conversations with families before we ever begin AAC trials.

Because AAC is rarely as simple as choosing the “best” app.

There are real considerations:
access, regulation, implementation across environments, communication partner support, and what meaningful communication actually looks like for the individual using the system.

An AAC SLP should be more than the person who helps select a device.

They should be an advocate, a guide, a liaison, and a collaborative support throughout the process.

I would love to be a part of your team.

Buckeye Speech & Communication has found its home in Clintonville!
Doors opening June 2026.

Almost six months ago, a long-standing clinic in this community closed. Families and clinicians felt that devastation, myself included.

Clintonville wasn’t chosen by accident. This location matters, it’s home.

This isn’t about recreating what was here before. It can’t be replaced.

It’s about building something that prioritizes access, real communication, and collaboration. Care that actually fits the people using it.

If you’ve been looking for speech or AAC support in this area, you can fill out the inquiry form (link in bio) to get first updates regarding scheduling.

Hi, I’m Cara, the SLP behind Buckeye Speech & Communication, LLC. It’s the first day of Speech-Language-Hearing Month so why not (re)introduce myself!

• I specialize in AAC, early intervention, and social communication
• I support complex communicators and the teams around them — caregivers, schools, and other professionals
• My goal as a speech therapist is simple: everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and in control of their communication
• Because progress doesn’t stop in the session & it should carry into real life

• I can (and will) turn any activity into a song
• My sessions are probably not quiet… but they are meaningful, engaging, and a good time

Outside of therapy:

• I’m a wife (fun fact: we got engaged at Animal Kingdom 🦒)
• and a mom to a very busy and entertaining 17-month-old

Whether you’re a caregiver, therapist, or educator; I’m so glad you’re here. 🤍

Want to boost your Easter basket this year ?! 🐣🗣️

If you’ve been trying to find gifts that are fun and support functional communication, this is gift guides for you 👇🏾

🌷 Early Intervention

• Board books → early sounds + shared attention
• Puppet + play food → eat, yum, yuck, more
• Peekaboo blocks → knocking, opening, waving, imitation
• Gear spinner → cause/effect + verbs: go, more, turn

🗣️ AAC Language Learners

Remember: use AAC to teach AAC.

• Wind-up toys → “ready… set… GO!”
• Bubbles → pop, more, go, stop, all done
• Rocket balloons → on, off, go, stop, colors
• Scarves → colors, location words: up, down

📱 AAC Device Needs

• Tablet pillow → everyone wants to relax but still be able to communicate
• Stylus → access needs for many, give fingers a rest for others
• Screen wipes
• Device tags → supports carryover everywhere
• Colorful straps → personalization away from just black and keeps device in reach

This is an easy one to come back to when you’re building a basket 🐣

Starting speech therapy can come with a lot of questions and you should be empowered to ask them.

Your therapist should be comfortable discussing:
•Their approach
• How progress is shared
• How you’ll be involved in the process

Asking questions is part of empowering yourself and your child/individual to take charge of their communication journey.

💡 Your therapist should be answering these three questions — with or without you asking — by the end of the first three sessions.

One of the most common questions I hear is:
“How do I know if someone needs AAC?”

The answer: when verbal speech alone is not meeting their communication needs.

High-tech AAC is not reserved for specific diagnoses, age, or ability level.

Early access to high-tech AAC can reduce frustration, support language development, and give individuals the means to participate in their own world.

Communication Access Matters.
It is a Human Right.
