A belated Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, bonus dads, stepdads, grandfathers, partners, and father figures out there.

I had every intention of posting this over the weekend, but life had other plans. After being knocked down by food poisoning, I was reminded just how important it is to have someone in your corner when things get hard.

As doulas, birth workers, and parents, we often spend so much time focusing on the person giving birth that we forget the incredible support people standing beside them. The new dads learning as they go. The seasoned dads who have walked this road before. The bonus dads who chose to love children as their own. The grandfathers, uncles, brothers, friends, and partners who show up with steady hands, open hearts, and unwavering support.

Being a father isn’t just about biology. It’s about presence. It’s about showing up. It’s about holding space when someone needs strength, offering comfort when things feel uncertain, and being a safe place to land.

Whether you’re supporting a partner through pregnancy, birth, parenthood, or simply showing up for the people you love every day, your role matters.

Thank you to all the men who nurture, protect, encourage, and love. The world needs more of that.

Today, 2020… yes Kaden was jaundice… but we didn’t need light therapy. Breastmilk and natural sunlight saved the day. (And to be honest that basically wrapped up 2020 anyway) so my question is, do you see or have you heard a corolation with jaundice babies + an O+ mom plus white cord clamping? A nurse at Winthrop told me O+ moms tend to have jaundice babies and that delaying the cord clamping can as well… 🤔

It gets a laugh every time, but there’s actually truth behind it.

One of the biggest misconceptions about birth is that pushing starts the moment you hit 10 cm. In reality, we want to wait for a +1 pelvis to baby station before starting or (what some describe as) an overwhelming, involuntary urge to bear down—almost like your body completely takes over.

Birth is raw.
Birth is primal.
And sometimes the best way to explain it is with a gas station bathroom analogy. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂
