Estrogen excess, or dominance, is another common hormone imbalance I see in practice. Too much estrogen or symptoms of too much estrogen can be due to:
• Poor liver detox
• Poor digestion
• Excess adipose (fat cells)
• Lack of progesterone
• Stress
• Genetics
• Exposure to estrogen mimicking toxins (like plastics)

Again, there are many tools to help this imbalance! But start with lifestyle, ditch the plastic, eat more cruciferous veggies (this will help eliminate estrogen through the liver and gut), and as always reduce stress. It helps to test levels through lab tests. As I say, test don’t guess!

Progesterone is my favorite hormone! It should be yours too! It’s a natural anxiolytic. So when levels are too low you’ll see a lot of mood disruptions like anxiety and insomnia. Low progesterone is a common reason periods are irregular. This can lead to infertility and, sadly, miscarriages.

I see progesterone low in too many women.

Why? 1. Stress is a major cause of suppressing progesterone through dopamine/prolactin pathways. 2. PCOS is major cause of low progesterone and PCOS rampant.

THE GOOD NEWS? So many naturopathic modalities can fix low progesterone. The key is finding out why it’s low.

Simply put progesterone, estrogen and testosterone are responsible for a healthy cycle. To really know what a woman’s cycle is doing and where potential problems may be it’s vital to test all 3 (in addition to other hormones like thyroid, stimulating hormones and precursors). I can’t tell you have many women have come to me with labs from their doctors who claimed to have tested their hormones to only come back with 1 of these. If we know what is in excess or insufficient we know how to correct the issue better. Questions ? Ask below.. (I can give medical advice but I can answer general)

ATTENTION friends, family, and colleagues!

NY naturopathic doctors really need your help right now. We are pushing for licensure in 2021 so that we can expand our scope of practice and help people get the care they want and need!! If COVID-19 taught us anything it is that chronic disease can put you at risk for many detrimental health issues. Naturopathic doctors EXCEL at treating chronic disease, many of which can be reversed... like type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension.. just to name a few. During this pandemic, I could have been helping and administering testing but the state of NY does not recognize my medical degree. I sat back and felt useless.

Expanded scope of practice would allow us to:
1. Perform physical exams and testing (such as covid tests, strep tests, mono tests, flu tests in office )
2. Diagnose patients
3. Run necessary labs
4. Accept health insurance so that people do not have to pay out of pocket.
5. Provide natural, safe and effective medicine to everyone
What we need:
1. Public support (Those in NY please fill out this simple form http://www.nyanp.org/find-a.../licensure-efforts/)
2. Support from medical professionals- especially those in NY. If you are a nurse, medical assistant, medical doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist.. anything. A letter with your support is vital with your professional letterhead.
3. Those who are patients of NDs in licensed states and who have benefited from their scope of practice. Your experience in the form of a letter would be incredibly helpful so that we can teach these legislators what we are capable of!
4. If you are currently my patient or a patient of an ND- a testimonial is ALWAYS helpful.
You can message me directly or email me with your letters or questions.

Are you guys checking your vitamin d levels already?

Sun exposure alone hardly gets those numbers up.

Make sure your levels of vitamin d 25-hydroxy are between 40-60 ng/mL . If they aren't, start supplementing with a GOOD QUALITY vitamin D. Also, do not supplement until you know your level!

Elderly patients who have previously taken vitamin D3 supplements are more likely to survive COVID-19 but a single standard dose of 80,000 IU vitamin D3 after infection is probably too low and too late in the day to generate protective effects, according to the first quasi-experimental study into th...
