New research highlights a potential link between a history of tonsillectomy and an increased risk of breast cancer. Our study underscores the importance of regular follow-ups and screenings for individuals who have had a tonsillectomy to assess their breast cancer risk. While some theories suggest early immune function disruption, others propose that pre-existing altered immunity might contribute to both tonsillitis (leading to tonsillectomy) and cancer development. Our comprehensive review and meta-analysis of observational studies sheds new light on this association. Note: One meta-analysis offers a differing view, which warrants further investigation.
