Martha Dodge, senior vice president at Elliot Health System, said the flagship Manchester location saw 311 more people in May needing an inpatient bed than it did the year before.

It's tick season now, and Lyme disease feels one bite away.

Emergency room visits for tick bites have reached their highest levels for this time of year since 2017. Several regions of the United States are seeing increased tick activity due to warmer temperatures, especially in the Northeast and Midwest, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"New Hampshire has one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the country," the CDC states. "Anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and Powassan virus are other tickborne diseases that have been documented in NH."
