Have you ever noticed that your emotions can affect your stomach or digestion?

There's a reason for that.

The relationship between the gut and our emotions is a two-way street, and the gut-brain connection has been extensively studied. Our emotional experiences can influence digestion, gut motility, muscle tension, and how we physically hold stress in our bodies.

In many ways, our emotions are stored in the gut. Our bodies remember what we've experienced, even when our minds have moved on.

Emotional trauma and prolonged stress can cause the abdominal area to feel tight, guarded, or restricted. Sometimes, it can feel like we're literally holding something there.

And when the body finally has an opportunity to relax, something interesting can happen.

I've had some clients experience a wave of emotion during a session as their body begins to let go and relax — sometimes emotions they didn't even realize they were holding.

It's not unusual for the physical and emotional sides of what we've been carrying to show up together.

Sometimes the body is ready to release more than just what's been sitting in the colon. 💚

Get more out of your colon hydrotherapy with these recommendations. 💚

💧 Hydrate 24–48 hours before your appointment
Coming in well hydrated can help support a more productive release during your session.

🧘 Don't rush in — give yourself time to relax
If you can, leave a little extra time before your appointment to slow down and unwind. When you come straight from a busy or stressful day, it can take some time for your body to shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest mode. The more relaxed you are, the more your body can settle into the session and release.

🍽️ Avoid eating for at least 2 hours before your appointment
Giving your body a little time between eating and your session can help you feel more comfortable.

And remember — these are simply recommendations to help you get the most out of your session. If you can't do all of them beforehand, don't stress! Life happens, and you can still have a great session.

I get asked a lot: What’s the difference between a colonic and an e***a?

Both involve introducing fluid through the re**um to help eliminate waste but there are important differences in how they are administered, how they help evacuate waste, and how much of the colon they can reach.

💧 An E***a

An e***a typically uses a relatively small amount of fluid that you are encouraged to hold for 5–10 minutes before expelling. It is generally intended to cleanse the re**um and possibly the lower portion of the colon.

E***as are commonly self-administered at home, although they can also be used in medical settings.

Some e***as contain ingredients that draw additional water from the body into the colon to help soften and move stool. Depending on the type and frequency of use, these can also contribute to fluid and electrolyte losses.

💧 Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon hydrotherapy uses a much greater volume of water and is generally performed in a professional setting by a trained practitioner.

Rather than introducing one small amount of fluid and allowing it to sit, water is introduced and released throughout a 40–45 minute session. This process can facilitate cleansing beyond the re**al area and lower colon, reaching further into the colon.

And because the colon naturally absorbs water, water introduced during a colonic can also be absorbed during the process, contributing to hydration while the bowel is being cleansed.

So, what's the difference?

While both can help empty the bowel, they don't provide the same level or type of cleansing.

An e***a is generally a smaller-volume, more localized bowel cleanse, while colon hydrotherapy uses significantly more water and a process designed to facilitate cleansing throughout more of the colon.

If your goal is a more thorough colon cleanse, colon hydrotherapy offers a more comprehensive approach than a traditional e***a.
