Did you know AFA offers Babyscripts? 💙

Babyscripts is a program available to eligible AFA patients that supports at-home blood pressure tracking and simple pregnancy check-ins between appointments, with nurse review of trends along the way.

Why this matters: preeclampsia can sometimes develop subtly during pregnancy, making blood pressure monitoring especially important.

Eligible patients may receive a Babyscripts monitoring kit at their first prenatal visit, with support from our team to help patients stay connected between visits.

More support between appointments, built into your care at AFA.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Irene Lewnard to AFA Obstetrics & Gynecology! 💙

Dr. Lewnard is a board-certified OB/GYN who was inspired to pursue medicine by her grandfather, who began his career as a family physician before later becoming an anesthesiologist, along with her aunt who worked as a pathologist. Their dedication to serving their communities helped inspire her own path into women’s healthcare.

She has been practicing for 7 years prior to joining AFA and is passionate about providing full-spectrum women’s healthcare while building lasting relationships with patients through every stage of life.

A local to the area, Dr. Lewnard attended high school in Westford and now lives in Carlisle, where she is raising her two young daughters with her family. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially outdoors enjoying New England.

Fun fact: she was also on the field hockey team at Tufts! 🏑✨

We are so excited to have her join the AFA team!

Happy National Nurses Week 2026 💙

We’re starting this week feeling incredibly grateful for the nurses who help make AFA what it is. From the first phone call to the delivery room and every moment in between, our nurses are the calm, compassionate, steady presence so many of our patients rely on.

Thank you for the care, patience, support, advocacy, and heart you bring into this work every single day. The impact you make on our patients, families, providers, and team does not go unnoticed, and we are so thankful for everything you do here at AFA ✨

This week, we celebrate you. 🩺💉

Happy International Midwives Day. ✨

Let’s talk about the women who give everything, and then a little more.

More patience. More presence. More time for the question you almost didn’t ask. More reassurance when you need it most.

That’s midwifery. And we have eight of the best.

Sherriann Perivolotis, CNM. Vanessa Crespo, CNM. Avery Fisher, CNM. Stephanie Sandwich, CNM. Lauren Carratu, CNM. Krystina San Soucie, CNM. Leanne Benson, CNM, Cristy Githu, CNM

Thank you for everything you bring to our patients.

For our midwives. 💙

If one of our midwives was part of your care, we’d love to hear about your experience, drop a comment below. 👉

Celebrating 30 years of dedication, care, and impact 🎉

This month, we’re honoring Cori, our Clinical Manager at AFA Midwifery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, who has spent three decades helping shape the heart of this practice.

Cori started here when the office was just a small team — one doctor, two nurse practitioners, and a handful of staff. Today, she’s been part of growing AFA into the incredible, all-women team it is now.

Behind the scenes, Cori does so much more than most people ever see, from hiring and supporting our medical assistants and nurses, to managing provider schedules, coordinating care, assisting with procedures, and being a constant point of support for both patients and staff.

But what really stands out about Cori isn’t just what she does, it’s why she’s stayed.

She’s spent half her life here, building relationships with patients who have grown alongside this practice. Women who now come in with children the same age as her own. Families who recognize her face after years and feel that sense of comfort walking through our doors.

Cori, thank you for 30 years of care, leadership, and commitment to the women in our community. This practice would not be what it is without you ✨🤍

“Fast forward to my second pregnancy — a ‘rainbow baby’ experience…” 🌈

After experiencing an ectopic loss, Jasmine held onto hope that she would one day become a mom.

Her second pregnancy, her rainbow baby, was going beautifully, until everything changed during delivery. In a matter of moments, what should have been routine turned into one of the scariest experiences of her life.

She was terrified.

But she wasn’t alone.

Through it all, she remembers the people who stayed by her side, who reassured her, and who acted quickly when it mattered most.

Today, her son is 3 months old and thriving. 💛

“I know in my heart she is the reason he is alive today.”

Thank you, Jasmine, for trusting Dr. Strehle and sharing your story with us.

“6 weeks and you’re cleared.”
Your body may look healed—but internally, it’s still recovering.

A Cesarean is major surgery. The incision may close fairly quickly, but the uterus and surrounding tissues take more time.

Here’s what’s happening:

• Days 1–3: The uterus contracts to reduce bleeding and begin shrinking
• Weeks 1–2: The surface heals, but deeper layers are still rebuilding
• Week 6: You may be cleared—but healing isn’t complete
• Months 2–3: Internal scar tissue can begin to form
• 6–12 months: Full recovery continues, including tissue and nerve healing

Recovery doesn’t stop at 6 weeks—about 1 in 3 births in the U.S. are C-sections, and this part of healing often goes unspoken.

A lot of women feel like they’re supposed to just push through this part of recovery.
If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth asking about.
