๐ What a wonderful anniversary celebration!
Thank you to all the families who joined our IPM Family Workshop on October 17! ๐
A special thank-you to Dr. David Biles and his daughter, Lenรฉe Howe, for sharing their expertise and introducing parents to the Integrated Perceptual Motor (IPM) approach we use in our Motor Classes!
๐ง Hereโs what parents learned:
โ๏ธ Balance & the vestibular system: Balance involves more than standing still! The vestibular system in the inner ear works with visual and body-sensory information to help children maintain stable posture, adjust their body position, and stay balanced while moving.
๐คธ Foundational perceptual-motor skills: Parents explored midline crossing (moving across the bodyโs center), bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together), and STNR (an early reflex connecting head movements with arm and leg responses). They also learned about body awareness, directionality, and spatial awareness โ skills children use to coordinate movements and navigate their surroundings.
๐ Movement, the brain & academic learning: Movement stimulates sensory systems and engages brain networks involved in alertness and attention, including the Reticular Activating System (RAS). These processes can support childrenโs readiness to focus, participate, and learn in the classroom!
๐ก The biggest takeaway? Purposeful movement goes beyond physical development! It gives children opportunities to build strength, coordination, confidence, attention, and foundational skills that support learning and academic readiness.
Thank you to everyone who made this event so special! ๐
