Berry berry good for you! Fruits with antioxidants are tiny powerhouses of nutrition that can help the body repair itself. They also contain vitamin C, which has been shown to help rebuild collagen and soft tissue. Nutrition is a vital part of surgical recovery. Depending on the surgery, you may have some dietary restrictions. Talk to your surgical care team about how you can help your body heal more effectively with healthy foods.

It may seem like a small bulge or occasional discomfort, but a hernia is not something to ignore. During Hernia Awareness Month, Paragon Surgical Specialists is helping raise awareness about this common condition that affects millions of Americans each year. Hernias occur when an organ or tissue pushes through a weakened area of muscle, often causing a visible bulge, pressure, or pain that may worsen when lifting, coughing, or bending. Left untreated, hernias can grow larger and may lead to more serious complications.

The good news is that many hernias can be repaired using minimally invasive surgical techniques, often resulting in less pain, smaller incisions, and faster recovery times. If you've noticed symptoms or have concerns about a possible hernia, don't wait to get evaluated. Early diagnosis and treatment can help you return to the activities you enjoy with fewer interruptions to your life.

šŸ“ Schedule an evaluation and learn more about your treatment options today. Visit ParagonSurg.com for more information.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month may only come once a year, but protecting your skin should be a year-round priority. ā˜€ļø Did you know that early detection is one of the most important factors in successfully treating skin cancer? That's why the surgeons at Paragon Surgical Specialists encourage monthly skin self-checks, daily sun protection, and prompt evaluation of any suspicious spots, moles, or lesions.

In our latest blog, we discuss the most common types of skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the rare but aggressive Merkel cell carcinoma. You'll also learn how to perform a skin self-exam and simple steps everyone can take to reduce their risk. Your skin is your body's largest organ. Taking a few minutes each month to check it could make a big difference.

You hear, "Please do not eat or drink before surgery," but do you know why? 🩺 When your stomach is empty, there's far less risk of aspirating (accidentally breathing in) stomach contents if nausea occurs under anesthesia. Even a small amount of food or liquid in the airway can cause serious complications.

Your surgical team will give you specific instructions based on your procedure, including a directive not to eat or drink anything (including water, gum, or candy). Please stick to them. They're not arbitrary — they're designed to help keep you safer on surgery day. Questions about your prep instructions? Call us. Please ask. Never guess. That’s why we’re here.šŸ˜Šā¤ļø
