OT sessions don’t always look like “therapy” ⚾️🫶

To our friend here, this activity probably just felt like playing catch outside! Little did he know, hidden inside this game was SO much work happening:

⚾️ hand-eye coordination
🧢bilateral coordination
💪motor planning + timing
👀visual tracking
⚾️ impulse control + attention
🧢frustration tolerance + resilience
💪behavior strategies using Zones of Regulation
👀sensory input through movement, sunshine, fresh air, and heavy work
⚾️ social connection + confidence building

Client-centered therapy means meeting kids where THEY are because when a child feels safe and engaged, that’s where they grow and learn!!

Sometimes growth looks less like worksheets and table work, and more like baseball gloves and belly laughs 🥹💕

the secret is….

this isn’t blowing bubbles for play, it’s actually really hard oral motor and breath control work right in front of your eyes!!

👀🫧 check it out ⬇️
Using a thin straw to blow bubbles into water targets:

🫧oral motor strength + coordination
🫧breath control
🫧lip closure
🫧grading force (“too much” vs “just right”)
🫧sustained attention
🫧motor planning
🫧regulation through controlled breathing

Pro tip: The smaller the straw, the more control and effort it takes 👏

This is one of our therapists favorite ways to make hard work feel FUN while still supporting foundational skills needed for feeding, speech, self-regulation, and overall body awareness!!

Save this & try it at home! 💾

Working on hygiene skills today through play!! 🪥✨

Today we used a toothbrush to erase “sugar bugs” off a laminated mouth. Incorporating play helps keep little ones engaged & motivated to work on so many important skills tied to grooming and oral care!

This activity helped support:
🦷 hand strength + coordination
🦷 visual attention to different areas of the mouth
🦷 understanding where and how to brush
🦷 tolerance and familiarity with oral hygiene routines
🦷 making tooth brushing feel FUN instead of stressful

Play-based learning helps little ones build confidence before real-life routines ever become a battle 💛

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms, grandmas, bonus moms, caregivers, and every person showing up day after day for their little ones 🩵💚

Thank you for the early mornings, the busy schedules, the practice at home, the emotional support, the advocacy, the patience, and the love you pour into your children every single day!!

The biggest thank you we have in all ➡️ Thank you for trusting us with your babies and allowing us to be part of their journey. Watching their growth and celebrating their wins with your family is one of the greatest honors of what we do 🥹🫶

The progress we celebrate in therapy doesn’t happen from sessions alone, …it happens because of YOU!! ✨

Today we celebrate all of the hard work, dedication, and love behind the scenes that often goes unseen. We appreciate you more than you know.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Life Touch Therapy 💐

This is your reminder that what looks like “just playing” is actually intentional, layered work!! 💪

In this activity our therapist & client were targeting:
• Core strength
• Postural control
• Motor planning
• Crossing midline
• Bilateral coordination
• Body awareness
• Focus & attention
• AND reflex integration

Our favorite part is when the cushion dropped, our therapist didn’t correct it. They didn’t encourage the kiddo to “try harder.” Nope!! Instead, they had a mistake party 🎉

Kids don’t build confidence by getting it right every time, they build it by learning that messing up is safe!!

The space where they feel confident to try and mess up, yet try again, is the space they can grow and learn in 🫶

THAT is the difference between:
❌ performance-based pressure
✅ connection-based learning

Save this if you need ideas for:
✔️ core + coordination play
✔️ reflex integration activities
✔️ building resilience through play
