While grave markers have been used throughout history, engraved or carved headstones became increasingly popular in the Victorian era. Inscriptions, Bible verses, and messages about the loved one were often included, as well as artistic decoration. In addition, they often added details that gave indications regarding the manner of death. Such as the cut tree stump, which symbolizes a life cut short and/or abruptly. While the designs of headstones have evolved over time, with many choosing more personalized headstones, the tradition of honoring our loved ones remains.

There are 5 stages of the grief process.
There is not a timeline for when grief will end nor do the stages come in a specific order.

Denial: Feeling numb, shocked, or refusing to believe the loss is real. It acts as a temporary defense against overwhelming pain.

Anger: Feeling frustrated, resentful, or asking "why me?" This emotion often masks deeper hurt and can be directed at self, others, or higher powers.

Bargaining: Trying to find a way out or making "deals" with God or fate to reverse the situation.

Depression: Experiencing profound sadness, emptiness, and heavy fatigue as the full reality of the loss sets in.

Acceptance: Coming to terms with the reality of the loss and learning how to move forward and live with it.
