Genealogy & Preservation Center - MCMLS The Genealogy and Preservation Center is located upstairs in the Conroe Central Branch. We are part of the Montgomery County Memorial Library System.

The Montgomery County Memorial Library System always provides FREE programs and never requires a fee. The Genealogy & Local History Room was established in 1976 due to the efforts of Imogene Kennedy, our first Genealogy Librarian, and the Montgomery County Genealogical Society. Our collection has since grown to be one of the largest in the state of Texas. The collection offers books, family histories, local yearbooks, records, maps, microfilm, and much more. Events are regularly held on various historical and genealogical topics. In 2017, a Preservation Pad was acquired, which allows the user to digitize documents, photos, and film.

The Genealogy & Preservation Center has had a great day! Thank you to author, Andrew V. Rapoza and the Montgomery County Historical Commission for generously donating a copy of his book "Isaac Conroe: Visionary, Trailblazer & Founder of Conroe, Texas" to our centers collection. We are grateful for his contribution and for helping to preserve and share the rich history of our community. We look forward to making this resource available to visitors interested in learning more about the man whose legacy helped shape our area. Not only are we the lucky recipients, but the Montgomery County Memorial Library System will also have a copy in the other locations as well. Thank you!

Family History Month is a wonderful reminder that every family has a story worth preserving. Taking time to share memories, old photographs, cherished traditions, and the experiences of those who came before us helps keep our family legacy alive. By learning about our roots, we gain a deeper appreciation for the people and events that shaped our lives and create meaningful connections for future generations.

Visit us in the Genealogy & Preservation Center! We’d be happy to show you how to start your family tree, search historical records, and navigate the many genealogy databases available. While you’re here, be sure to explore the equipment available to help preserve your family photos, documents, and treasured memories for generations to come.
