Our wonderful founder, Dr. Jonathan Rea has done extensive research within the LGBTQ+ community!
Pride is often associated with celebration, visibility, and community. These are powerful sources of resilience. But Pride is also a reminder of the mental health obstacles many LGBT individuals continue to face.
One of the strongest findings from his research is that higher levels of external shame are associated with greater substance use concerns.
External shame is the belief that others see us as flawed, inferior, or unworthy. When people feel rejected, judged, or forced to hide who they are, the impact can extend far beyond self-esteem. It can affect mental health, relationships, and coping behaviors.
This is why affirming environments matter.
When people are accepted, supported, and given space to live authentically, healing becomes possible.
This Pride Month, may we continue building communities where LGBTQ+ individuals are not merely tolerated, but genuinely seen, valued, and celebrated.
🌈 Shame thrives in secrecy.
💜 Healing grows through connection.
🏳️🌈 Pride reminds us that authenticity is a strength, not a weakness.
