Don’t panic over misleading headlines like this!

Medicare Part D is NOT ending in 2027. This post is clickbait and leaves out a very important word: subsidy.

What is ending is a temporary program called the Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration. It provided extra federal money to companies offering stand-alone Part D plans to help prevent large premium increases while major changes to Medicare drug coverage were being implemented.

The program began in 2025 after Medicare capped annual out-of-pocket prescription costs and shifted more of the cost responsibility to insurance companies. CMS says the companies now have enough experience with the new rules to accurately price their plans, so the temporary assistance will end after 2026.

Here is what seniors need to know:

✅ Medicare Part D prescription coverage will still be available in 2027.
✅ This announcement is not saying that the Extra Help/Low-Income Subsidy program is ending.
✅ Some stand-alone Part D plans may have higher premiums in 2027.
✅ Final plan premiums and benefits have not been released yet—they are expected in September.
✅ Do not change your coverage based on a scary headline. Review your medications, pharmacy and plan options during Annual Enrollment, October 15–December 7.

Part D is not going away. The temporary subsidy paid to participating insurance companies is what is ending. Please share this so Medicare beneficiaries do not worry unnecessarily!
