Shirley Ball Walker, 90, of Sarasota, Florida, passed peacefully on July 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of those dearest to her. Born on September 29, 1935, to the late Moses and Mattie Ball in Eastman, Georgia, Shirley lived a life filled with grace, strength, faith, and deep love for family and friends. She was a devoted member of First Unitarian Church of Chicago. In her later years, she made her home in Conyers, Georgia, with her beloved nephew, Eric, and his wife, Denise, whose care and companionship brought comfort and closeness to her days. Shirley leaves behind a tender and lasting legacy of love, wisdom, laughter, and treasured memories. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Celeste; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by her presence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Walker; her brothers, Roosevelt, Thomas, Elgie, and Moses; and her sisters, Gervis and Eleanor. Shirley found joy in the moments that made life beautiful. She cherished traveling with her late husband, Jim, and carried those memories close to her heart. She also enjoyed yoga, jazz, nature, football, and basketballβ€”simple pleasures that reflected her spirited and joyful nature. A proud graduate of Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida, Shirley pursued her education with dedication and purpose. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Foods and Nutrition from...
