At Always Best Care Senior Services, our mission is to provide veterans with the most outstanding care possible and to assist them in obtaining the funds to pay for the care they need. The Always Best Care Veterans Assistance Program helps some of America’s most deserving citizens remain in their homes longer while maintaining a healthy and safer lifestyle. Or, if the veteran chooses to move to an assisted living community, benefits can also apply to the cost of room and board as well as personal care.

**I’m back in the office — and I’m grateful. ❤️**

As I settle back into the office, one of the things I’m feeling most is gratitude.

**To my team: thank you.**

Thank you for continuing to show up for our clients and families, for supporting one another, and for handling all the big and small things that happen behind the scenes. Being able to step away and know that the people we serve are in caring and capable hands means more to me than I can say.

Coming back has also given me time to reflect on **why this work is so personal to me.**

The woman in this picture is my mom. ❤️

My connection to Alzheimer’s and caregiving actually began many years ago. In the late 1990s, my grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease, and I helped with her care.

That experience stayed with me.

I remember how much there was to learn and how difficult it could be for a family to understand what resources were available and what decisions needed to be made.

It became part of my motivation for entering senior care. I wanted to understand the options. I wanted to make sure that if my own family ever faced something like this again, we would be better prepared. And along the way, that purpose grew into helping other families understand their options, too.

Then, in 2023, Alzheimer’s became personal for our family again when my mother was diagnosed.

More recently, Mama was also diagnosed with a rare cancer, bringing another set of decisions, questions, and emotions for our family to navigate.

So when someone asks me:

“What do we do now?”
“How do I know when Mom needs more help?”
“What options do we have?”
“How do I make the right decision for someone I love?”

I understand those questions not only from my professional experience, but from my own family’s journey.

And maybe that’s one of the reasons I’m returning to the office with an even greater sense of purpose.

Over the coming weeks, I want to use this page to do more than talk about home care. I want to help families understand their options before they find themselves in a crisis.

I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned personally and professionally about aging, Alzheimer’s and dementia, caregiving, keeping loved ones safe and independent at home, and navigating some of the difficult decisions that come with caring for an aging parent.

If you’re somewhere in that journey right now, I hope you’ll follow along. And if there’s a question you’ve been afraid or unsure to ask, please ask me. If I can help, I will.

**To my team — thank you for holding things down and allowing me the time I needed with my family.**

It’s good to be back. ❤️

And Moe continues to remind me exactly why this work matters.

Staying properly hydrated is important for everyone—but it’s especially critical for seniors. As we age, our bodies experience natural changes that can increase the risk of dehydration.

If your loved one struggles to drink enough water, there are small but effective steps you can take:

😄Encourage water-rich foods like watermelon🍉, cucumber 🥒, oranges 🟠, and strawberries 🍓.

⏰ Set gentle reminders to sip water throughout the day, especially with meals or medications.

🥛 Use fun or easy-to-hold cups and water bottles to make hydration more appealing and accessible.

🚽 Monitor urine color—pale yellow typically indicates proper hydration, while darker urine may signal a need for more fluids.
