It's your day off work; your day of rest ...
Scenario A: lay in bed and scroll social media for 30+ minutes... Begin to feel your cortisol rising, as you start to compare yourself to everyone else. Suddenly you feel inadequate, lazy, ugly, not enough. And irritable. You go into the kitchen for breakfast & you're now craving something sweet to take the edge off. You reach for a carb-heavy blood sugar bomb of muffins, pancakes, or really whatever you can find in the pantry to snack on because now you don't feel like making yourself something nourishing. The rest of the day feels terrible, cravings and food noise all out of whack, constantly needing something sweet, getting more irritable by the minute. You no longer feel like getting your workout in because, after all, you deserve a rest day. Your motivation for yard work or cleaning the house quickly disappears. And then you realize tomorrow is Monday, so you soak up every last second of "relaxing" on the couch with some TV and more snacks. You end the day ravenous because you haven't really had any real food, protein, veggies... and you feel like the day is pretty much shot anyways, so you binge on all your favorite snacks & treats, promising you'll start over tomorrow morning. You go to bed full of guilt & shame, and sleep like crap because all you ate was crap and you didn't move your body.
Scenario B: you get up, throw on your tennis shoes, and head outside for fresh air and morning light. Birds are chirping, but there's not a single soul outside yet, as you watch the sunrise from the horizon. You find yourself overwhelmed with the beauty God has created, and feel so at peace with yourself & your own thoughts... appreciating this time to slow down & reconnect. You can literally feel your stress melting away. You come inside the house, motivated and energized, excited to get things done for the day. You cook up a high protein, high fiber breakfast with lots of color. It smells amazing. You sit down to enjoy it, without scrolling on your phone. You eat with intention & enjoy every bit. The rest of your day is productive & your body and mind are at ease. You sleep like a baby and look forward to tomorrow. 🤍
