Harvey Harris made his parents a promise in 1958: one day, he would finish his college degree.

He was six credits short at the University of Miami when the Army drafted him. He completed those credits while stationed in Augsburg, Germany — but the diploma never came. Sixty-eight years later, on September 1, it finally did, at a ceremony right here at Arbor Terrace Cooper City.

Harvey is 90. He is most likely the oldest student ever to graduate from the University's College of Arts and Sciences. "A promise is a promise," he said.
