We are truly thrilled to share that Dr. Benjamin Friedell has been honored with the 2026 Walter A. Franck Award for Physician Excellence. Please join us in congratulating him!

Among many roles he has held at our network, Dr. Friedell has been a primary care physician at Oneonta Family Practice, the Medical Director of A.O. Fox Nursing Home, and Chief of Otsego Division of Primary Care. He is also one of the founders and the Medical Director of the Oneonta Community Health Center, a free clinic for community members facing financial hardship.

Dr. Friedell is retiring from clinical practice with our network and we wish him nothing but the best in this next phase of his career as a caregiver. The total is now in! Thank you Five Star Subaru for naming Bassett Cancer Institute’s Oneonta expansion as its hometown charity for last year’s Share the Love event.

Thanks to Five Star Subaru’s customers, $29,975 was raised towards renovations that will increase access for cancer patients, allowing them to receive treatments in a more modern, soothing space. We are so grateful!

We warmly welcome Rani Kapur-Pado, DO, as an Attending Physician specializing in Internal Medicine at Bassett Health Center Sidney-Pearl Street.

Dr. Kapur-Pado earned her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. She completed both her residency in Internal Medicine and her Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Kapur-Pado provides comprehensive primary care to patients ages 18 and up.

Falls overboard are the most frequent cause of death in the northeast lobster fleet. Bassett’s Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety (NEC) has been working with lobstermen (and now all fisheries, with our partners from Fishing Partnership Support Services) to help supply comfortable, workable lifejackets to commercial fishermen.
