☀️ Play is more than just fun — it’s how children learn best.

Simple summer activities like sidewalk chalk, water play, scavenger hunts, and bubbles can help support:
✨ language development
✨ motor skills
✨ problem-solving
✨ sensory exploration
✨ social connection

Children learn through everyday experiences, especially when adults join in with simple language, curiosity, and encouragement.

You don’t need elaborate activities to support development this summer 💚
Small moments of connection and play matter most.

💬 Communication learning happens all day long — not just during therapy sessions.

Everyday routines give children repeated opportunities to hear, understand, and practice language in meaningful ways. Research shows that children learn language best through consistent, responsive interactions with the people they spend the most time with.

That means small moments throughout the day can have a big impact 💚
Try modeling simple, functional words during routines you’re already doing:
🍎 Snack time: “more,” “eat,” “all done”
👟 Getting ready: “shoes on,” “coat,” “go”
🚗 Transitions: “let’s go,” “bye,” “car”

Using short, clear phrases helps reduce language overload while giving children repeated exposure to words connected to real experiences. Repetition and consistency support understanding, confidence, and eventually more independent communication.

You don’t need to turn every moment into a lesson.
Simple language, repeated often in everyday routines, is powerful ✨

💚 Caregiver self-care doesn’t have to be complicated.
And it doesn’t need to take hours out of your day.

Sometimes self-care looks like:
✨ stepping outside for a breath of fresh air
✨ stretching for 5 minutes between tasks
✨ moving your body alongside your child

These small, intentional moments can help regulate your nervous system, boost your mood, and restore your energy throughout the day.

You don’t need to “do more.”
You just need moments that support you, too. 💚

Communication doesn’t start with words—it starts with connection.

Before children use language, they learn through shared moments, gestures, and interactions with others. By slowing down, following your child’s lead, and responding to their attempts to communicate, you are helping build the foundation for speech and language development. These small, consistent interactions throughout the day can have a big impact over time 💬

📱 Screen time is part of everyday life—and it can be a helpful tool when used intentionally.

To support communication during screen time, try:
✔ watching together when possible
✔ talking about what you see (“He’s running!” “That’s a car!”)
✔ pausing to give your child time to respond or engage

Even a few moments of shared interaction can turn passive viewing into a meaningful communication opportunity 💬

🗣 Communication Tip: Model, Don’t Test

It’s natural to ask questions like “What’s that?” or “Can you say ___?”—but children often learn more from hearing language than being asked to perform it.

Try modeling instead:
👉 “That’s a big truck!”
👉 “Go up!”
👉 “I see a dog!”
This reduces pressure and gives children clear, repeatable language they can begin to use over time.

Simple shift, big impact 💬

PT Tip of the Month: Movement Snacks

Struggling to find time to exercise? Try breaking it up into 5–10 minute “movement snacks” throughout your day.

These might look like:
✔ stretching during a show or quiet time
✔ walking while your child plays nearby
✔ taking the stairs or doing quick strength movements
✔ doing 10 squats after meals to help regulate blood sugar for stable energy

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing—these small bursts of movement add up and support both physical and mental well-being over time.

Feeling overwhelmed? You’re not alone—and you don’t need a full workout to support your mental health.

Research shows that even small amounts of movement throughout the day can help reduce stress, improve mood, and boost energy. Try adding short “movement snacks” into your routine—these small moments can make a meaningful difference over time.

You don’t need more time—just small, intentional opportunities to move 💚
