Understanding Medicare Advantage Enrollment Periods

There are a few important times during the year when you can make changes to your Medicare Advantage coverage:

- The Annual Election Period (October 15 - December 7): If you are eligible, you can, join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage plan with or without prescription drug coverage.

- MA-OEP (January 1 - March 31): MA plan enrollees may enroll in another MA plan or disenroll from their MA plan and return to Original Medicare. Individuals may make only one election during MA-OEP.

- Lock-in/Special Elections Period (April 1 - October 14): You can make a plan change if certain circumstances arise such as:
- If you move out of your plans service area
- If you qualify for “Extra Help”
- If you qualify for both Medicaid & Medicare or have a qualifying Chronic Condition

It is important to understand these different periods when making decisions about your healthcare coverage.
