🎉 Welcome to SONHS, Dr. Tony Umadhay! 💚🧡

The University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies is proud to welcome Lonar Anthony “Tony” Umadhay, Ph.D., CRNA, FAANA, FNAP, FAAN, as our new Associate Professor of Clinical and Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program.

With more than 30 years of experience in nursing education, clinical practice, academic leadership, and health care advocacy, Dr. Umadhay brings a wealth of expertise to SONHS. His work spans health equity, workforce development, simulation-based education, anesthesia practice, and health disparities.

In his new role, Dr. Umadhay will help lead the continued growth of our DNP program and advance the education of the next generation of advanced practice nurses and nurse leaders.

The week also included the Academic Deans’ Meeting hosted by Dean Hudson Santos, giving parents an opportunity to connect with academic leadership, learn more about the student experience, and discover what makes the School of Nursing & Health Studies such a special place to learn, grow, and prepare for a career in healthcare.

On August 13, the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies was proud to host law enforcement professionals from , , and agencies across South Florida for the inaugural ‘Line of Duty Death’ (LODD) Best Practices Workshop.

The all-day training focused on preparing officers to navigate one of the most difficult realities in law enforcement: the loss of an officer in the line of duty, as well as how to support colleagues and families through grief and loss.

We were honored to welcome University of Miami Provost , School of Nursing and Health Studies Dean , University of Miami Police - Chief Shinn, Coral Gables Police - Chief Hudak, law enforcement leaders and partners from across our community in support of this important training.

By bringing together education, leadership, and community partners, the training underscored a shared commitment to supporting those who serve—and the colleagues and families who stand beside them. 🧡💚🧡

Congratulations to Frank Guido-Sanz, Ph.D., APRN, ANP-BC, AGACNP-BC, CHSE, FAANP, FNAP, professor of clinical and associate dean for simulation education and research at the University of Miami School of Nursing & Health Studies, on being named an Academy of Nursing Education Fellow (ANEF) by the National League for Nursing.

The ANEF designation is among the highest honors in nursing education, recognizing sustained excellence and national leadership in education, scholarship, innovation, faculty development, and service.

A nationally recognized leader in simulation-based education and emerging healthcare technologies, Dr. Guido-Sanz continues to transform how future nurses develop the clinical judgment, critical thinking, and teamwork skills needed to deliver exceptional patient care.
