Good morning, everyone,

Happy New Year! The Southern Legal Counsel will be hosting a free statewide legal name and gender marker change clinic via Zoom on Thursday, January 9th, from 6 PM to 8 PM EST. Please see the information below.

“Happy New Year from SLC's Transgender Rights Initiative! To kick off the new year, we are announcing our next free statewide legal name & gender marker change clinic, which will be taking place THURSDAY, JANUARY 9th from 6:00-8:00pm EST. During the clinic, you will learn everything you need to know about the legal name and gender marker change processes, you will receive all the forms and applications that you need to change your legal name in the Florida county where you reside AND to change the name and gender marker on your government-issued identification documents!

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED - please register asap to ensure you receive your packet of forms ahead of the clinic: https://bit.ly/3W5Meib (⬅️ registration link here, or you can use the QR code on the graphic below ⬇️) For information about why amending the gender marker on your federal identification documents (Social Security record and U.S. Passport) prior to January 20th, 2025 is so important, and to download the forms and information you need to amend your gender marker on those documents, visit SLC's website, www.southernlegal.org, click "Resources" and then click "Legal Name and Gender Marker Changes" (or visit https://lnkd.in/g5sh4bex).

Our wish on this New Year's Day is for every transgender Floridian to have access to legal documents that accurately reflect the name and gender marker that match their gender identity, and for every trans Floridian to have the safety and protection that updated identification documents provide! We are here to help! ”

This year's conference theme is Supporting Families, and we are seeking abstracts on all aspects of transgender medicine, including:

Legal and social issues
Patient advocacy
We are particularly interested in abstracts that address the following topics:

The latest advances in transgender medicine
Abstracts should be submitted online by June 1, 2023. For more information and to submit your abstract, please visit our website at www.sftransmed.org.

The urgency of the situation

In recent months, there has been a wave of unprecedented legislative action targeting transgender people in the United States. These laws, which have been passed in states across the country, would restrict access to healthcare, education, and sports for transgender people.

The SFTMC is committed to providing transgender people with the care and resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. This conference is an important opportunity for healthcare providers, researchers, and advocates to come together and share their expertise, learn from each other, and develop strategies to support transgender people through their work in the face of these challenges.

We hope you will join us at the conference!

We are considering a change to our mission statement that currently reads: "To provide state of the art medical information to mental health and licensed allied professionals, nursing and medical students, including support staff that addresses culturally sensitive care and treatment for the transgender and gender non-conforming and gender creative community."

The change we are considering would be to:

The mission of the South Florida Transgender Medical Consortium (SFTMC) is to provide advocacy through education to those serving transgender and gender non conforming (TGNC) people seeking health care.
